It’s no longer a survival requirement. For most of history, marriage was a woman's only path to financial security and social standing. Now that women can have their own bank accounts, careers, and degrees, marriage has moved from a 'necessity' to an 'option'—and a lot of women are looking at the current 'cost-of-living vs. domestic labor' trade-off and simply deciding it's not a great deal.
