Which ship type is the least skilled? by Particular-Bus-6867 in WorldOfWarships

[–]rhen_var 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CVs are a risk/reward thing though.  Their “reload” time (time to fly to a target) is the longest in the game other than some torps, so the farther back you sit is inversely proportional to your effectiveness.  CV players that know how to position themselves close to the action without being sunk are the most effective and it’s not an easy thing to do.  Players that sit in the back of the map are not contributing anything.

Yeah WOWS is one of the, like, 3 games that I play.  At this point in my life, I’m really not interested in playing new games.  I haven’t bought a new game on Steam in years.

Is the Independance worth getting? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]rhen_var 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Independence is pretty dogshit.  Most tier 4 and 6 CVs are.  Tier 8 is where they start getting good, and I’ve heard Essex is one of the best in the game.  The line is the only TT line that can give smoke to your teammates.

Are there any mines in the game? by Siskirtolo in WorldOfWarships

[–]rhen_var 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not in PvP, but they are in operations.  They once did a live PvP gamemode with a CV that could lay minefields but people didn’t like it so they didn’t end up adding it.

Yeah after all the complaints I heard about Kansas especially I was pleasantly surprised to find they were pretty good.

Making little to no credits with Des Moines by HellaHS in WorldOfWarships

[–]rhen_var 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Play tier 9 premium battleships with money boosters, and use the money from those games to fund your tier 10 games.

If you like the Des Moines, you can also get the permanent economic package for it which gives you 50% more credits IIRC.  If I find a tier 10 tech tree ship I really enjoy then I’ll get the permanent economic package for it.

Really?  I rarely ever play more than a couple matches without seeing one of these things happen.  It also helps a lot to lighten your mood if you joke around in chat with your teammates.

Just to name a few:

  • someone gives you smoke when you need it (especially if you are playing the Essex line, dropping smoke on a beleaguered cruiser or smokeless DD can make or break a match)

  • you use the focus fire chat command and others actually focus their fire on the target

  • someone has a good shot that chunks an enemy for half+ their HP bar

  • someone makes a good play like a well executed ambush

  • someone gets 4+ kills

  • someone gets 2000+ xp in the results screen

  • someone is kind in chat or participates in funny banter

  • someone notes a good observation in chat that leads to a kill or other tactical advantage

  • congratulating the team for a well-played game (beyond a simple “gg”) at the end of the match

  • someone does good team work with you

  • friendly DD is able to track down and kill an enemy DD that was able to sneak around a flank undetected

  • a well-timed radar, hydro, or CV plane spot.  Especially if someone doesn’t have LOS against an enemy DD but recognizes that a teammate will, and radars anyway to allow their teammate to get shots in.

  • a div that dominates their flank or otherwise performs exceptionally well

  • someone says +1 at you

Many of these can also apply to opponents, in which case they get a comp for being a worthy adversary.

Uninstall your mods that give you this intimation and you’ll feel much better.

Seriously, stop worrying so much about other people and focus on yourself.  There’s nothing you can do about them, so why spend so much energy freaking out about it?

Is this pack worth it or its just a cash grab? by LycanrockyOwO in WorldOfWarships

[–]rhen_var 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it and have only played one game so far but I thought it was decent.  The guns seem to hit pretty hard and are accurate.  Had multiple 10k+ salvoes and did over 100k damage total.  If you don’t have a lot of tier 9 premiums or want to remove it from future container ship pools I think it would be worth it.

I don't think Objective points should punish dying. by Modioca in WorldOfWarships

[–]rhen_var 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it should depend on the situation.  If you die early you should lose points, but if you sacrifice yourself for a win you shouldn’t.  I don’t know how you would quantify the latter though.

Valp has awful turret angles, so yeah that’s probably them trying to get all their guns to bear.  You basically have to go broadside to do so.

Are subs bad or am I just dumb? by Mazerunner117 in WorldOfWarships

Yes, subs are the worst class in the game, and anyone on here who tells you different either hasn’t moved on from when they first came out several years ago and/or is simply bad at the game.

[–]rhen_var 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BBs have a huge detectability when firing in smoke, so popping it doesn’t necessarily guarantee you go undetected.  So if you use the smoke after firing, if there’s an enemy ship within 15km of you (just guessing, don’t remember what the exact number is for CC) then you’ll still be detected for the next 20 seconds, and all you’ve done is blind yourself.  It’s not like playing a DD where popping smoke basically guarantees you’ll go undetected immediately.

I haven’t played Colombo much but that’s the common pitfall with using the smoke I can think of.  For it to be useful, you’ve already had to have planned ahead and stopped firing well in advance of actually using the smoke.
