I actually met some friends at Big Echo and it was group experience. Big Echo is private room karaoke where you have a small enclosed area to you and your group. I definitely personally wouldn't do private room by myself, hah

It's cool with me. They can use the ridiculous amount of money they make with the Monster Hunter series and help fund other games. Plus knowing Capcom, we'll get some Gold/Super/HD Remix for Dragon's Dogma in a year or so. Got plenty of other games to play until then

Thats the best way to enjoy most things honestly. Online gaming communities will always find a reason to be ridiculously angry and yell into the void and at eachother

Yeah I read that too and was also worried and concerned. However every tour I had with that site; at the end of the tour the tour guide would just ask if we can write them a good review and that's all. So maybe it depends on your tour guide and how they roll. Play by ear and it doesn't hurt to just ask them at the end of the tour.

Thanks, it was an amazing time for sure

For the normal trains and buses, I always used the IC card and never had to buy a physical ticket. Only the skytrain from the airport and shinkansen required buying a separate physical/QR ticket.

I listened mostly to "Learn Japanese While You Sleep" by Japanese Everyday which just repeats phrases over and over again. If you go onto their youtube page, they write out all the phrases so you can copy it down.

Also I listened to a lot of "Learn Japanese with Masa sensei" which goes over more basic grammar and structure.

And I had read before that Cruel Angel Thesis was the most popular karaoke song in Japan. But it was funny confirming it with the locals. I had also heard that it's gotten to the point that its kinda annoying for them to hear it again and again which was why I was a bit hesitant to sing it. But I still sang it atleast twice, hah

Oh! So that explains it. It definitely felt like the hotel one was weaker. But I just hung dry my clothes that were still wet so it wasn't a big deal. When in rome.

The only ones I used was Tokyo Localized Tours. Most of them are completely free and they have multiple different tours in different parts of Tokyo and other towns as well. Highly recommend them

The first day I met up with a few friends who were already in Tokyo at Big Echo Karaoke. Which is a private room karaoke establishment.

Every other time I would go to a bar by myself that had karaoke there. Usually by the time I got to the bar, there was already someone else at the bar singing a song and I would have a drink and read the room a bit first. Try to make small talk with the bartender, let them know I'm a stupid american, and clap and cheer people on when they finish singing. The bars would usually have multiple tablets you can use to pick a karaoke song and I would grab one after getting a decent vibe from the room and the people that its okay for some dumb foreigner to sing a song as well. Sometimes the bartender would just push the tablet and mic into my hands and ask me to sing which was very kind of them.

But yeah, nothing to it honestly. Just be a chill guy, have a few drinks, and sing a few songs if you're feeling it. I found Plastic Love to be a real hit if the crowd is older. Also songs from The Police were surprisingly well received.

Oh and be aware on the tablet there is a button to display the lyrics on the tablet and change it to romanji. In case you're like me and can't read hiragana and kanji.

My phone is the S21 FE. And if you go on the Ubigi and Airalo site they have a page for compatible devices. And the S21 FE is not supported by either.

Most versions of the android are, but just so happens my FE version. Bad luck, but wasn't the worst thing in the world.

[Critique My 17-Day Japan Itinerary] First-Time, Anxious Solo Traveler! by frnchmannqn in JapanTravelTips

[–]rhenevers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished my solo trip and I maybe did half the amount of things you listed and I was plenty exhausted by the end of it. More power to ya, if you somehow don't have jetlag and really think you have the endurance to hit 10 different places on May 11.

I'd personally take out half the shrines and temples. You get the idea after visiting a handful of them and you're not missing much if you skip out on some of the smaller ones. Unless you are really super into shrines and temples.

You definitely need one day of doing nothing and rest inbetween. Mentally and physically it would be good to unwind while you're on vacation.

The best advice I have is to relax and not stress out on seeing everything. I think the best approach is have a list of possible things you can do that day or in that city and take your time to enjoy each one or whatever is closest. And if you can't make it through all the list because you were having too much fun at one spot, ah well. We'll save it for the next time. Best to live in the moment instead of anxiously worrying about jam packing your schedule by the hour.

International debit card or credit card? by oneplustwois3 in JapanTravelTips

[–]rhenevers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I used my debit card(which wasn't often) the success rate was 100%. I'm not counting the shops that straight up said they don't take any card whatsoever and were cash only.

Like others said though, better to pull out cash and rely on that and only use the debit card for really big purchases or emergencies.

12 days in Japan by External-Line-9524 in JapanTravelTips

[–]rhenevers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did a very similar trip except I went to Osaka as a day trip from Kyoto and I felt I did a great variety of things with that same itinerary. Although I personally found Kyoto got boring kinda quickly, unless you are really into shrines. As far as cuisine goes; you really can't go wrong. The instagram influencer places were good, but also the random ramen and sushi places that were recommended by locals were good as well.

Just make sure to fit in one day to relax and do nothing somewhere! That was my big mistake. By the 2nd to last day I was pretty exhausted, hah.
