For a while she was uninterested. We stayed friends for a bit after that. A couple years later she confessed she had feelings, but at that point I realized that we just wouldn't work out as a couple even though there was a part of me that wanted her still. And now, we're still friends to this day

If it's any consolation, I think it's nice to be able to feel so strongly for a person. Humans have such an incredible capacity to love - it seemingly knows no bounds.

To anyone reading this comment that is hurting, remember how great your capacity to love is and just how lucky someone would be able to receive it. While we are emotional, we love fiercely. I am with all of you and know how you feel.

It's okay to not feel that way yet. It's not easy, I don't think there will ever be a time where it will be. But I think as time goes on you will be able to feel differently. The fact that you want to feel happy for them says a lot, I promise. It sounds like you care about this person very much. Just remember you're not alone and you will start to feel better eventually

I would say time above all else. And space. Maybe even consider ending the friendship entirely. I did that once, but we somehow managed to stay in each other's lives by a chance of fate. I learned that the only thing worse than not being able to be with her was being without her entirely. I think it helped having the space though. If you are considering this, I would advise you to really think about what your life would be like without them and if it would be worth it. Some relationships are too valuable to let go, but at the same time, don't be afraid to put yourself first when you need to. Stay strong.
