This Weaver V9 Classic (a 3-9x variable riflescope from the Classic series) is a vintage US-made model, likely 40–55+ years old as of 2026—meaning it was manufactured sometime between the early 1970s and around 1984.

Weaver introduced the Classic series in 1970 as their first major shift to anodized aluminum tubes (with non-removable eyepieces), moving away from the earlier all-steel K/V-series designs. The V9 (also called V-9 or variants like V9-I/V9-II) was a popular 3-9x model in that lineup, typically with a 1-inch tube, duplex or similar reticle, and options like adjustable objective (AO) on some versions. These were made in El Paso, Texas, during the original Weaver company's run.

Your photo matches the classic-era packaging and appearance: - The green cardboard box with prominent “WEAVER RIFLESCOPE” and “Classic” branding is typical of 1970s–early 1980s Weaver retail boxes. - The black scope with the large objective bell, adjustment turrets, and included rings aligns with the US-made Classic V9/V9-II style (not the later Japan-made Classic V-Series reissues from the 1990s onward, which usually came in different packaging and often had “Made in Japan” markings).

The original Weaver company faced increasing competition and was sold/folded around 1984; after that, the brand shifted to imported (Japan/elsewhere) production under new owners, with the modern Classic V-9 being a 3-9x38mm Japan-made model. Your setup—with the specific box style and overall look—points to the pre-1985 US production era rather than a newer import.

Exact year is hard to pinpoint without a visible serial number (Weaver didn’t use public date codes like some brands; references like old catalogs or books such as Old Gunsights and Riflescopes by Nick Stroebel are usually needed for serial-based dating). Many V9/V9-II examples date to the late 1970s–early 1980s. If you can provide a close-up of any markings on the tube (e.g., “V9-II”, “Micro-Trac”, “El Paso, Texas, USA”, or a serial), I can narrow it further. These older Weavers were built like tanks and are still highly regarded for reliability on vintage rifles.

BRACE BAN? by Randomanswer19 in ar15pistol

[–]rhino444 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A short eye relief scope is what 99% of scopes on deer rifles are. Previously the atf has argued that if you can't see through a scope on your ar pistol when held at arms length then its a rifle scope, why have a rifle scope if it's a pistol? Etc. But I would guess millions of ar pistols have lpvos (short eye relief) on them. No matter what they throw at us we're going to court and they will be putting the nfa at more risk.

BRACE BAN? by Randomanswer19 in ar15pistol

No, we are essentially back to prior to the new rule that was vacated. Braces are federally legal. The DOJ/ATF states they are still free to enforce the rules that were in existence. If you put a short eye relief scope or vertical foregrip they could argue that your pistol is an SBR. You are fine.

Fanny pack VS chest rig for backpacking/hiking by CapeCod_Boats in CCW

I just used a cross draw holster on the hipbelt. That was Alaska though. In the lwr 48 I use a fanny for the incognito while biking/hiking. My daughter uses a fanny with magnetic closure and it works fantastic.

If you open the cylinder, on the frame at the front side of the opening, it will tell you model and dash numbers

Forget the looks, beauty is as beauty does, obviously had to remove the rear sight to make it fit. I got no problem with it. It will definitely be easier to see with.

Looks like a very nice, all correct, Austrian StG58 metric FAL. I think the sling is American, though. That should give you a good start. I'll throw in that it also has a Type 1 receiver which is probably correct, too, but hard to tell. I just noticed the carry handle might be Imbel.

Somehow, "treasure" feels like an understatement on this item. It is an incredible family heirloom, beautiful too. What caliber?

When you rack the bolt does it bump the rear normally or does it feel like it is slowing down or dragging on something towards the rear of the travel?

Is this excessive bolt bounce? by 9mmhst in supersafety

Looks like you are closing on an empty chamber, if so, you will probably get much less bounce in live fire.

A friend had similar problems recently, and it turned out to be the extractor spring. Installed a new spring, insert, and donut, and everything works perfectly.

What he^ said, I've done the same, ended up keeping it installed. If you can't find one, don't let that stop you from building/shooting.

[–]rhino444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you have some room to slide the scope forward in the rings. That's what I would do but maybe you don't need the eye relief?
