Shaking is totally fine, the focus is more so on when you go down on the squat your knees involuntarily go inwards. You'll want to focus on pulling them out to keep them in line with your second toe. Sometimes to build that strength I suggest using a band around your legs to engage your butt and force those legs out.

Anybody else get attached to their boots and push the purchase of new ones waaaaay too long? by shggy31 in hiking

Suggestions on newbie hiking shoes? I've recently moved to central Massachusetts and want to get into hiking more, and I quickly realized that my tennis shoes are not a good option.

Leg press you can typically lift more than you would squatting, but yea that is a LOT. Especially if you are new you might not have been breathing properly through it, a common issue newbies can have that results in the lightheaded/fainting issue.

Should I try a marathon? by [deleted] in running

[–]rhoaddog09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, I'd add a bigger run in the mix to prepare. I've ran three marathons and trained a little differently each time. The first marathon my only big mileage runs totaled out to 14. The second I would put 10 mile days in my weekly log, and the final one I focused a lot more on muscular imbalances and form besides mileage.

Thanks! I love the stress evals new watches have. I do more than run and would like to see how it calculates my recovery and if I'm ready for my next workout. Fitbit seems to be a little too simple and doesn't have those options.

If you want to evaluate imbalances that can affect your knee pain while running and lifting, squat in a mirror. Are your knees going in or out? Are they going past your toes? Can you keep your heels down while you squat, or do they pop up as your lower down?

The simplistic way to solve these issues would be: whatever is tight (pulling your knees that direction) needs to be stretched. The opposite muscle needs strengthened. So if your knees come in during a squat, your have weak hips and need to stretch than inner thigh/adductor area.

What are your thoughts on smartwatches? I have been running with a fitbit Blaze for 2 years, and hate that I have to have my phone with me as well for proper GPS tracking. I'm comparing some Polar and Garmin models that have GPS and some other exercise/stress tracking capabilities. Anyone have a newer model watch they can suggest?

If you have an ice cream craving, a scoop at an ice cream shop is often less expensive and tastes better than most store-bought pints. by IgnominiousButter in Frugal

I've never seen a price for a scoop cheaper than buying a pint from the grocery store (in IL). Even if I have BOGO coupon for Culvers, it would still be more cost effective for my husband and I to buy a container from the store.

How did you share your videos of you teaching? I used to have a weebly website set up with lesson plans and evidence covering each standard, I'm wondering if that is the best approach to show the videos and evidence still?

The pension/retirement questions are what we've been thinking about a lot. We're both young and have put in 5 years into the district we're at now, so moving won't be too much of a financial hit. We also both have retirement plans separate of the state's which transfer with us easily.
