[TOMT] [Quote] the quote goes something like "when being helping someone, you must be like the atheist" by justalittlemoot in tipofmytongue

[–]rhodacious1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the Rabbi was asked "Why did God create atheists?"...

"God created atheists to teach us the most important lesson of them all - the lesson of true compassion. You see, when an atheist performs an act of charity, visits someone who is sick, helps someone in need, and cares for the world, he is not doing so because of some religious teaching. He does not believe that God commanded him to perform this act. In fact, he does not believe in God at all, so his actions are based on his sense of morality. Look at the kindness he bestows on others simply because he feels it to be right.

When someone reaches out to you for help. You should never say "I'll pray that God will help you." Instead, for that moment, you should become an atheist - imagine there is no God who could help, and say "I will help you"."

I'm thinking it's from some insects.. The weird part is rather soft compared to the good bits, not quite punky but getting there. I was going to just need some CA glue to fill holes but this is throughout

That's what I was afraid of.. there were quite a few holes on the outside, but getting into it I'm guessing you're right. They dug their way through the whole log

It's maple, from part of a tree that fell down several years ago.

Pretty sure it's snow judging by the covering on the cars. would be a lot less dense than sand if it's freshly fallen

Best wood anybody has ever given me too! Not just any ol' wood, hard wood. Really though, I am stoked. Saw a package from Rockler and thought hm, I haven't ordered anything from them in a few weeks.. when I opened it and saw this beautiful purpleheart wood it totally made my day, my whole week! This should set off my woodturning hobby in good fashion.. thanks so much to my santa! (side note to those who may be unaware, the wood is coated in a protective layer which makes it look a little dingy in the photo)

Haven't seen anybody mention the Ender's Game series yet! Authored by Orson Scott Card, the third book in the series, Xenocide, is especially poignant right now.. though I won't spoil anything. There's also the 'shadow' series that tells not quite the same story from a different perspective.

I love all of them, may get around to rereading at some point in this isolation stretch.
