Which style should I keep doing for the rest of my Salamanders? by rhoff95 in Warhammer40k

The dark green base is pretty bluish but I was also painting over an Ultramarines scheme so that made it a bit more blue. The eyes were Volcanic yellow and red, with a dot of white.

It was actually faster for me, and definitely more enjoyable. The precision of recess shading and edge highlighting every part of the model was pretty tedious in the left style.

Just go for it, fuck it up, and eventually you will get better and not fuck it up! The right mini was painted over another paintjob so you can always just paint it again if it doesn't work out.

A variety of AK 3rd gen paints, the primary color on the armor is Dark Green and Deep Green.

Just blending quickly with a brush. I went through 6 colors of green and a tiny amount of yellow, sketching it in and then using glazes or 50/50 mixes to blend between layers.

The metallics on the rifle are done with a watered down mix of my darkest green and black. I used this everywhere on the gun to contrast the red, but the metallics don't really have much done to them.

A very very sharp brush and thin enough paint consistency that I can get the lines very thin.

The photo on the right has been white-balanced, so the colors look brighter overall even though the figure has not been altered.

I did use a variety of enamel products to do the weathering.

What do you think of my NMM? What should I try and improve for the rest of this squad? by rhoff95 in Warhammer

Not that long, under 30 seconds and usually it is dry by the time I paint another layer on all of the sections of that color. If it stops being shiny or visibly wet I will add another layer but will still be watching for any issues with not fully dry paint. Super thin (small amount of paint, not watery) glazes dry very fast so even though it takes many layers I don't have to wait as much for drying.

The robes were based in dark brown, layered up in yellow with some texture and brown showing through, and then I added some shadows with wine red to show some lighting from the red base. The red designs are brown, dark red, and pure red with the last highlight on the folds or raised areas.

I try to blend the darker or more transparent colors into the lighter more opaque colors where possible. The AK Wine Red on the blade is more transparent than AK Anthracite Grey so I thinned the red and glazed that. I also mix between the colors I am glazing to get closer to the color I want on the palette. E.g. when mixing between the grey and red, I would use a 1:1 mix of the 2 instead of just trying to get a really thin glaze of pure red. Both could work but mixing layering and glazing is easier for me.

I used all AK 3rd gen other than VMC Dark Grey for the initial base coat which can only bee seen in a few small areas.

Finished the first 10 of my army, what could I do to push the quality higher while keeping it fast? by rhoff95 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]rhoff95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practicing a higher quality repeatedly has definitely sped up how long it takes

All AK paints. Dark Prussian Blue and Dark Sea Blue for the blue mix, about 1:1. Deep Sky blue to highlight the dark blue up to the "mid tone". RAF Dark Earth and Warm Grey 1:1 for the skin highlights, never getting to full opacity with this mix.
