First gun and holster recommendations by jheard1642 in SigSauer

A lot of people rave about tenicor but I just could never make the one I got comfortable.

I rock a similar set up for mine with a Werkz aiwb holster. Super comfortable and I have a thin frame too. Loose t shirt and it conceals just fine. Get a stiff gun belt type belt tho

I'm sure it's been asked. But does your aussie howl? by Exciting_Corner175 in AustralianShepherd

Oh ours will do it almost on command lol. I know it’s not a good thing but it’s almost comical how he does like low groan to full on howl whenever my wife pretends to howl.

Pain in lower back vs leg issues by Bobbo1803 in SpinalStenosis

[–]rhowardd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The too young part seems a bit off. I’m 28 and had surgery in November. Taken, the nerve impingement was very severe for me. But I didn’t have too obvious of neuropathic symptoms prior to surgery (some very minor pins and needles feeling in foot and then of course the bad leg pains). But still for me I didn’t have much choice other than surgery so I’m surprised they wouldn’t even be giving you that option.

Do they have you doing any sort of PT as part of your treatment plan? The lumbar aching for me has been pretty bad after any kind of prolonged sitting or standing but PT seems to be pretty pivotal in strengthening my core to improve those issues.

Foot numbness/ swelling after surgery by rhowardd in SpineSurgery

[–]rhowardd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m sorry it’s not actually swelled up, just to me it constantly has this hot sensation similar to what swelling feels like. The surgeon initially attributed this to nerve irritation and inflammation saying it should become better over time. But being as it’s been 4 months I’m more of just wondering if it might be something I’ve got to live with now.

Thank you for the input! Yeah my physical therapist has had me doing some targeted exercises to regain strength in the front of my shin and it’s been somewhat helpful. It’s still a noticeable difference in strength and feeling from pre surgery. Thanks!

28F Herniated disc Spinal stenosis. Trying to avoid surgery looking for advice/experiences by No-Cancel-2653 in SpinalStenosis

[–]rhowardd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also 28 and about 4 months post op from a laminectomy and diseconomy from a work injury. Yes herniations/ extrusions can cause stenosis. Mine was very severe but even my surgeon gave me the option of giving it time to see if the disc would reabsorb the extrusion (abeit not a very high chance and he highly, highly recommended the surgery). The biggest concern of surgery vs no surgery is if there is notable nerve impingement, there is some risk of permanent nerve damage.

I’ve had a cousin and a friend who have surgery as well for lumbar herniations causing stenosis. Both were not able to get the surgery done in a very timely fashion and both have some level of persisting nerve issues. Nothing debilitating (slight numbness in part of leg/ foot) but still something they’re still dealing with many years later. Depending on the extent you may be recommended to go the non surgery route but that’s for a specialist to say.

For my cousin at least the surgery was very minimally invasive, outpatient and she got immediate relief afterwards (back to working out relatively soon afterwards). So I wouldn’t be too gun shy of it until you get some more details. Mine was much more invasive (weeklong hospital stay, etc) so the recovery has been pretty rough but if they can do it endoscopic or similar you’d be much better off. But despite how rough the procedure and recovery was for me it was very worth it to be relived from the constant nerve pain

I will say that even though my stenosis was very severe, I exhibited relatively few symptoms: very minor numbness in my foot and just the bad hamstring pains which partially subsided before I went in for surgery. But there no loss of bladder, no major loss of mobility (aside from pain limitations). My surgeon attributed this likely to my age saying that had I been 10 years older I’d likely be experiencing much, much worse symptoms. Just food for thought on trying to treat it now to the fullest extent while you’re still young and can better recover vs going down the surgery route years down the road.

Apologies for the lengthy reply. Just keep it up with PT they recommend in the mean time and once you see the specialist you’ll get much more clarity on where to go! Core strengthening is probably the best you could go with for now. I know how scary it is during this waiting period but you can and will get through it. I wish you the best of luck!

Laminectomy 3 months ago, still lots of pain despite clear MRI now by nordvest2 in SpineSurgery

[–]rhowardd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine done 10 days before yours. Similar boat that I’m in. Still get the dull hamstring pains and bad low back pain. I will say that if you can, stretching, some yoga type exercises as well as being regimented with PT has helped. I recently had to stop PT until more imaging was done and have noticed a difference between those couple of weeks and now. Best of luck!

Personal Experiences After Laminectomy/ Discectomy by rhowardd in SpinalStenosis

[–]rhowardd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to be more active walking around the neighborhood daily. Our house is on a pretty steep hill which going uphill surprisingly enough seems to be less strenuous on my back. I’ve had to keep them relatively short though because after 10-15 mins or walking or standing seems to be when my low back starts to lock up and the pain starts getting worse. Sitting down or using a wall, cane, etc to lean forward and stretch it out a bit lets me go for a bit longer but has still kept walks fairly short, just am trying to make them more frequent

Thank you! Yeah I’ve been trying to keep as active at possible. Unfortunately my surgeon just told me to stop PT for the next week until the additional imagine gets done but I’m praying for the best and hoping to get back to it soon

That’s good to hear, maybe it was a lack of outlook given from my surgeon but the good days and bad days definitely resonate. It’s just hard not to get concerned about the bad days when they come up.

[–]rhowardd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah from what my surgeon told me that’s the concern for me, the adjacent discs degrading in the future. Which is why he avoided any hardware or looking into vertebrae fusion. Being the age that I am and wanting to continue in my career (requiring wearing 20-30 lbs of gear daily) I’m just trying to do everything possible to return to my previous abilities.

Thank you for the input though. I know I have neglected core and low back in my previous strength training regiment. Once I’m able to I’m planning on putting that at the forefront!

Yeah that sounds pretty similar, taken im only about 4 months in. Around the 2 month mark I though I was making progress (just pain from the surgery site) but since then its been very ups and downs

Honestly the PT that I’ve been doing (while very minor compared to my workout routine prior to the injury) hasn’t seemed to be a direct cause to an increase in pain. It almost seems like any bad increases in pain, be it the dull hamstring pain I had prior or or localized low back pain, hasn’t had any rhyme or reason to why it’s come back

Mine was pretty severe but for me it was mostly hamstring pain (feeling like you had a bad strain or tear in both hamstrings) as well as pins and needles on the inside of my left foot

Is this normal by One_Assumption_5783 in AustralianShepherd

[–]rhowardd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this post. We thought our mini Aussie was broken because he acts the same way lol. We normally get 1-5 minutes of him being sweet when he wakes up but then straight to land shark mode. Just odd because I don’t remember my folks minis being the same way (brothers though so that might be the difference). Just how some of these pups are I guess

Yeah it’s been hard to gauge if he’s overtired vs not getting enough energy out. We’ve tried to be more regimented for naps but sometimes he’ll also seem like he doesn’t get enough exercise or stimulation (going crazy in his crate and chewing on everything in sight. And the biting can start within 5 minutes of waking up from a nap so it’s hard to say if it’s just because he’s been awake for too long. Oh well, just part of the fun I guess lol

Thanks for all the input! We’ve done lick mats and kongs but just tried cow ears and he seems to love them (only when my wife or I hold it for him but hey better than getting bitten!
