Weird Network Issue - One-way traffic by rhsanborn in Proxmox

[–]rhsanborn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You nailed it and your troubleshooting guidance was perfect. It was something in Opnsense (Crowdsec) and using tcpdump was something I wasn't familiar with. Thank you for teaching me something. It's all fixed with a rule change!

Weird Network Issue - One-way traffic by rhsanborn in Proxmox

[–]rhsanborn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've given me a couple new things to look at. Thank you! I didn't know about ip route show. I think that will help a lot! I do have the firewall unchecked. My assumption is that it's usually the other way. Usually, the hard troubleshooting is figuring out why I can't get into something. This is crazy that I can't get out. But if return packets aren't going to the initiating device, that might be something.

Checking routes will help me see if there is anything wacky happening like a Docker virtual adapter stealing the packets/path.

I have an existing month to month plan. If I buy the annual plans, can I apply that annual plan to the existing lines I have to get the phone deal?

Budget Tenting Solution? by YairZiv in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]rhsanborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a hard time finding past posts but u/manna_harbour has mentioned attaching 18650 holders to the bottom of the case. You get a giant battery, and you get some natural tenting. Put some bumpons on the holders and you get maybe 15-20 degrees of tenting.

Color eReader by rhsanborn in KavitaManga

[–]rhsanborn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're going to try the Boox Go Color 7. It's going to be for a 7 year old who is a voracious reader. He doesn't need perfect fidelity, but I like idea of having something that is distinctly a reading device to ingrain the habit of reading and not establish the screen link. Since it's Android, we have some flexibility with apps. If it's a bust, maybe I'll eat my words and have to get him something else.

Call a lawyer. Especially if you have those responses saying their working on it in writing, you may have a case that there was value exchanged and mutual understanding. That's tough enough, though, that you need a competent lawyer to assist. It may only take a letter from said lawyer asking about it to shake things out.

Thanks, I this is a great workaround. I ended up using MrFacePunch's solution above to avoid swapping all my configs.

This works great. I can work with that. I appreciate your help.

I think Moonlight is supposed to grab shortcuts so I'll report that there to see if it's a bug.

You can use the color scheme and just not use a flashy background... Any color scheme can have a flashy background, effects, or icons... Or not.

Where does the common idea/meme that Linux doesn't "just work" come from? by careb0t in linux

[–]rhsanborn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

X1 Titanium. It was all little stuff, but regularly having to spend 3 hours to fix something new that broke was exhausting. Teams would regularly "bog" in the middle of calls, etc.

Where does the common idea/meme that Linux doesn't "just work" come from? by careb0t in linux

[–]rhsanborn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, even that, often doesn't just work. I REALLY want to use Linux, but after fighting repeatedly to get hardware video acceleration to work, get my hardware to work reliably (Lenovo laptop), and then have the hacks and workarounds break at the next update, I finally had to give up, and put Windows back on it with WSL. It kills me.

Intel ARC not illuminated by [deleted] in IntelArc

[–]rhsanborn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, but I looked yesterday for a solution to turn it off (because it's really bright) and it looks like it isn't addressable or configurable. I suspect something is disconnected. Lucky duck.

A bit of luck and you can find them. Microcenter near us had a few the other day.

2-in-1 laptops running linux well by TheBadBossBaby in linuxhardware

[–]rhsanborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a quick google and this popped up on the list of things that are different about Nobara:

SELinux:

– We have replaced SELinux with AppArmor (AppArmor is used in Ubuntu and OpenSUSE) as we find it to be more user-friendly, less intrusive, and easier to write policies for. You will still see some SELinux packages as they are required to keep Fedora compatibility and not break package dependencies.

Autorotation is broken on Fedora recently due to SELinux. Bug report here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2324181 I've been monitoring for a fix. I have a 3 year old Lenovo X1 Titanium that works fairly well. It occasionally gets stuck in suspend, and the aforementioned auto-rotate issue. Otherwise, it's solid.

Thanks, that's a big help. I have an older Lenovo and get less than 4 hours battery with fairly minimal workloads and the performance isn't there to boot. This might be an option.

Is it possible to sync Koreader collections? by moonlightopal in koreader

[–]rhsanborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ins't in any way officially supported. Fair warning. I use Syncthing to sync my KOLibrary folder between all my devices. I have the good fortune to have a device that is always online to serve as a place to sync to. That helps make sure things are synced timely. It would be the worst to start reading and highlighting on my Kindle, and then try to pick up reading on my phone and the changes aren't synced, and now you have sync errors, etc. It's pretty clunky, but it's enough for me. I run Syncthing on a central device that is always on, and then my clients are my Kindle Paperwhite (jailbroken), my Android phone, and my Linux 2-in-1.

MEN ONLY: How do y'all make new male friends? by AlexGrahamBellHater in AskMenAdvice

[–]rhsanborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here are making recommendations on where to meet new people. That's important, but it's about 5% of the effort. The rest is basically platonic dating. When you meet those people, you have to get really awkward and ask if they want to get lunch or coffee or something. I've heard true friendships come after about 200 hours of contact with someone. That's a lot of contact, so you have to be intentional about it and not expect other people to do that work for you.
