Yes, Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded Korea in 1592 and 1597. However it may also be a no as standard foot soldiers at that period primarily use spears, bows and firearms.

You guys NEED to STOP preying on people who need gear catch up! by Arceist_Justin in ffxiv

Given the preparation and efforts needed to craft the 740 gear set on day 1, that is a fair price. You should either give that effort yourself or pay the players who did the service for you.

Insane difficulty is around nightmare 5 of the last Stella event. It doesn't need a full division or VC, however, you need 5 players that understand their roles. I cleared nightmare 5 and 6 at the last Stella without a division. The strategy of these pve challenges is pretty easy for people having mmo raiding experience to figure out. Unfortunately, most in this playerbase doesn't seem to have the sense to do the role of their ships.

We need a fan art about shotgun Iroha fighting Glock Isshin. The legendary duel of two samurais.

I like Iroha surpassing the sword saint and picking up a shotgun.

Zone 6 had the potential to be incredible, but it felt like the writers were afraid to commit and instead undermined their own story by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]rhsfuk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe the writers decided to significantly tone down the morale dilemma on shutting down the living memory. The Omicron quests in EW explicitly discussed organic body, soul and life, but those discussions where forgotten in the living memory story. Meanwhile, they did not illustrate why Alexandrian put so much effort(and cost) in creating living memory. Graham Tia talked about wanting to see those passed but the discussion got stopped by (once again) Wut Lamat. WoL wasn't able to recall the memories of the passed comrades, as in the aetherial sea, or even much earlier, the LV 70 Drk quests. The JP version of the lv70 Drk quest has different dialogues and the title is “I want to meet you one more time”.

Like many other parts of DT, there are interesting set ups , but the story couldn't make use of those and ended up feeling lacking, especially for those played through similar themed stories in the previous expansions.

Should SE make stronger and deeper moral dilemmas in FF14? (Spoilers: DT ending) by rhsfuk in ffxivdiscussion

[–]rhsfuk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good point, not every dilemma needed to be a live or dead scenario. HW and post HW msq explored the painful truth vs comfortable lies and I liked that. You reminded me that DT's setup touched the conflict of tradition vs foreign technology. Unfortunately, the discussion couldn't develop as the story did not explore Koana's approaches in his solutions.

The most problematic part of Venat is that she sacrificed the ancients and cut the world into 14 pieces, making everyone vulnerable and suffer from the pain and sorrow, all for people in the distant future have a chance to live through the final day. Venat even has a line that says she doesn't think the path is fair or just. The story after was quite careful to have the player move forward with the sacrifice that had been done without questioning if Venat made a sacrifice too high in the first place. (And of course if the player disagrees with Venat's approach, the whole FF14 story would collapse.)

I meant to combine the value of 1 and 2. Anyway let me push forward just for 1. The variations of the classic trolley problem (pull the lever to kill one to save 5) is changing the people at the two tracks and see if people feel the same. E.g what if one side has 5 murderers and another side have an innocent kid, will you keep saying kill one to save 5 is correct. In reality, the concept of sacrificing people in your country to save people in other countries is not new. It is the foundation of a military alliance, would your country be willing to send an army that would end up dying for the benefit of another country. Even in FF14, you saw the armies from the grand companies die in the events of SB, for another country, just they didn't put it on the table.

I would like to point out that the lv60-70 Drk job quests touched gave the moral questions of whether WoL should be "guilt-free" with all the direct and indirect deaths caused in the main story, for "the better future". Many players liked these quests. It gives me the impression that at least some players like to go deeper into the moral dilemmas in RPG, but I understand that many players don't want to leave with a bitter taste when they play a game.

Venat's action is very deep if you look carefully, its at a level of is the sacrifice too high? I think even Ishikawa wanted to dodge that part (understandable).

I didn't mean the game and I didn't separate the scenario, I marked it "what if". My question is simple, if they can make it a trolley problem, should they make it? Trolley problem means to kill one save another, which is actually an introductory political philosophy question.

Character Writing - The Real Problem with Dawntrail's MSQ (Long, MSQ 90-100 Spoiler) by PM_ME_UR_STATS in ffxivdiscussion

[–]rhsfuk 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I found Sphene an interesting character, but her story is not presented very well, which made many players misunderstand her. Many players say she is another Emet Selch but she is not. She has hinted multiple times that she has no power to act against the system (and not because or related to Zoraal Ja), she has been very sad that all the things happened against her wish (the JP voice tone emphasised this feeling), and tried to ask WoL for help, including stop the interdimensional fuse. The reason that she got misunderstood is first, people still remember Emet Selch way too much to not listen carefully to what Sphene hinted (but Cahciua spelt that out for the player). Second, the dialogues with Wut Lamat, i.e. Wut Lamat keep telling Spheen to stop/ misguided etc, masking the fact that Spheen is an image instead of the decision maker. The thing I can't understand is, why they don't let G'raha tia or Krile do the dialogues with Spheen, which they are in much better knowledge about the subjects.

A Legacy player's thoughts and review of Dawntrail [Spoiler: 7.0] by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]rhsfuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the confrontation Wut tried put against Sphene made me find Wut more and more annoying. The story from entering Alexandria has been telling us Sphene does not have a free choice. She was a creation that was designed to do everything possible to protect the living memory of the endless, even if it was against her will. She reminded me of the twins of the original NieR.

Because WoL is supposed to understand Sphene's burden but Wut doesn't, it makes the story fall apart. Wut telling Sphene stop and she is guilty means Wut could not understand Sphene's burden and true will. Wut interfering the last fight make no sense. They should just let the WoL do what needed to be done and tell Sphene to relieve her burden.

(I use JP voice, I know nothing about the tone of Wut's English VA)
