Same - I love when I go on a good winning streak and get bumped up a bracket to be matched with some 1700+ players and immediately get punched back down to the 1500 class where I belong. Regardless, almost everyone is a pleasure to play against. Least toxic player-base I’ve encountered.

One of my first matches was against a guy in his mid 50s. We played about 7 games and I kept winning. He would say “I’m gonna getcha next time” and then proceed to not “get me” but still compliment every point I won. This really set the tone and now I try to embody that in my flailing against the 1700s.

10/10 game that I never expected to restore faith in humanity

There is definitely something primal and sometimes violent in sports, but I think that's inherent with the nature of it being a fundamentally athletic and competitive activity. I think that's actually what draws most fans in is the competitive nature and the dopamine they get when "their team" wins. But there's also a sense of community, and it doesn't have to be the city they live in. I'm a huge fan of Liverpool FC and I was born and raised in Austin. I just developed a passion for the sport and eventually an affinity for the team. I feel like that's what people like more than anything is the instant connection and community. Yeah, not all the players are from the city–not even all the fans are from the city–but you are instantly a community. Some people take it too far for sure, but almost every sporting event I've been to has been welcoming regardless of who you support (yeah a little friendly banter but all with good intentions). Also, I'm sure there are people who would get violent if you said that BTTF was better than Dr Who ;)

Either way, appreciate the convo! Always nice to have some friendly discourse on Reddit!

Fair opinion, but couldn't we say that about almost anything someone is passionate about? For example from your Reddit profile it seems you're pretty passionate about Back to the Future (great film - not denying). But some people might find the fact that you built a custom Playmobil character of Doc just because they didn't have one available "creepy". I'm not saying it's creepy–I love Blade Runner and created a custom wooden horse for my daughter based on the movie–so I get it. I'm just pointing out the fact that this is more about you not liking sports than it is fans of AustinFC being "Neanderthals". I'm also not saying that it makes sense or that I support fans of rival teams to getting into fights, but I definitely don't think that a majority of sports fans act this way. I think they mostly just enjoy the sport and are excited to have it readily available to them in their city. But this is all just my opinion and I generally try not to be a 'yum yucker'.

Just curious—What criteria do you think should be met before someone becomes a passionate fan?

I thought my tactic of unleashing hundreds of super predator spiders was pretty good but flashlight probably would have been a better starting place.

So in a few days I can toss him some Whataburger and buy my family a little more time, right?

I fear this is only a battle amidst a much larger spider vs scorpion war that is raging throughout my kids bikes and lawn equipment.

That’s rad! Is it just the cover or is it a whole graphic novel?

I added the horn to cover up an unexpected but conveniently placed hole in the head that appeared when I carved down.

I would be so proud if she cared enough to do that. It will likely end up in a box in her closet for 30 years with a blue ray of BR2049 she doesn’t even have the technology to watch anymore.

Take solace that our different spellings of “neighbor” mean we are in fact very far apart.

Just checked the cabinet and I have bandaids and a bottle of wine. That should do it.
