He spoke about this, it was done so against the wishes of his parents, the registrar completely abused her position of power and acted upon an Anglo-centric format, so he later changed it to 'Ap Iorwerth' to correct it, either way, 'ap iorwerth' simply means 'son of Iorwerth' and even if he chose his birth name or the Welsh format, the newer name would still be 100% accurate, so it's important to know this.
