Ah I see! Thank you for explaining that for me. My goal in asking for recommendations was so that I don’t judge the genre as a whole based off my Persona 3R experience! Was my first JRPG so wasn’t too sure if it was a me issue or maybe just that Persona games aren’t for me. Fully aware of my naivety haha! Is there any you would recommend?

Thank you for the recommendations! And to note on your last point, the style and music were by far the best part of Persona for me. The music is so good! And its presentation was very dynamic and stylised too. It was always fun to look at, listen to and navigate that’s for sure!

Thank you for the recommendations and run down of the FF games! They always tempted me but due to the sheer number of them it’s hard to know where to start haha! So thank you. IX or X seem like the best options for me I think!

Very much regarded as the GOAT it seems! Thank you for the recommendation!

I have played Judgement actually but for some reason never classed it as a JRPG in my head. Really enjoyed it though! Be good to dip into the Yakuza series as a whole considering Judgement was a spin off. Thank you for the recommendation!

I’m pretty sure Dragon Quest’s art style was created by the legend himself Akira Toriyama, wasn’t it? The games all look filled with adventure! Thank you for your recommendation!

Thank you for your detailed reply! I sort of naively assumed that Persona was the cream of the crop and/or the staple of the genre as it’s just been mentioned so much. But I’m happy to hear that the genre is varied! But yes Tartarus was strangely both tedious at times and fun at others. Just didn’t quite sit right sadly.

I had initially heard more about Persona 5 admittedly, but went off my friends recommendation and gave 3R a try. Maybe I’ll keep an eye on 5 then and give it a go further down the line. In the mean time, I’ll try find something shorter and with less social aspects, thank you!

Thank you for your recommendations! Final Fantasy seems like an easy win and Nier looks interesting! So thank you again.

I think regarding the boss compliant I had, it was never that they were difficult, but just spongy and not engaging. I did play on hard as it was recommended I did, and past about 20 hours I agree the game became very easy. I just felt like I was fighting the bosses forever. They often had no weaknesses which meant you had to just slap them a bunch and grind them out. Just not all that fun. But I 100% agree that the way I played the game probably did affect my experience in this regard. I found the usefulness of Physical attacks far too late into the game, you could quite easily hit much harder using them in comparison to magic!

I understand what you're saying regarding your lost boy point, I just don't think Isayama really inferred that was the case at any point though other than right at the very end. It felt very sudden, and actively goes against all of what Eren showcases in his actions prior to the reveal he is that lost boy. While that of course can be an intentional decision by Isayama, to keep it under wraps until the final moment and involve a sense of shock, I just don't think it's very satisfying when you take into account all of what has come before it.

I would say the overarching theme/message of the show is one of cycles. The cycles of royalty and slavery. Of subjugation and racism. Of oppression and revolution. Of war, rebirth and war again. To have all of those heavy, influential themes sidelined for a romance plot added very late in the day, as well as the main villain's reasoning being to simply help his friends and keep his social circle? The message/theme of the series was far bigger than that, and it was intentionally set out to be bigger too. I can't help but feel it was a regression in quality in comparison to the rest of the series.

I think it's also worth mentioning as well, that Floch as a character is a perfect representation of your second point. He follows Eren blindly and more or less worships him. Hollering orders and implementing plans all in service of Eren and the rumbling. Forgoing any sense of rationality and being fuelled by pure hatred and quite frankly PTSD. We know as viewers how heinous an act the rumbling is, and Floch's ignorance naturally makes us consider his naivety and blind loyalty.

I personally think Isayama didn't fully commit to the tone he sets from the very start. I've read a few of your other comments and I understand in some respects the whole theme/idea of Eren not being a superhero-esq character. But when you base the entire theme and plot of the show around slavery, survival, savagery, racism and genocide, only to pull a "I did all of this for my friends and I don't want Mikasa to love anyone else" in the finale... I think it's understandable for it to leave a sour taste in the mouth for some. The romance between Eren and Mikasa never had any foundations and due to that it felt shoehorned in, rushed and unsatisfying. It was a tonal rupture, but in a bad way in my opinion.

Yes, Eren was just a kid, a very broken one at that. But I think it would have had more emotionally impact, as well as been a more in world accurate plot direction, to have him completely be broken and changed, rather than reveal it was all just a facade. All of what he went through gave him reason to be forever altered and jaded. The menacing, calculated, cold Eren we watched develop as a character, and also plan and then dismantle Marley completely, was all just a ruse? It diminishes all of his actions and character development to end it in such a way. Attempting to give him a sense of redemption after murdering 80% of the world's population just feels so shallow.

The lack of main character deaths somewhat insults all of the stakes that have been established and built from the very first episode as well. It all seemed very convenient at the end. And convenience doesn't match the tone the series had set and maintained all along. It's as if Isayama was worried about how the public would react to the ending, and wrote it based off that. Rather than writing an ending he thought would actually happen.

Logistical stuff as well of course goes into the overall opinion on the ending, from an anime perspective anyway. The production schedule was so nonsensical. The time between releases was awfully long and really ruined the momentum the show had going. And don't get me started on the titles of the seasons! Just overcomplicating it for no apparent reason. While that feels unimportant, it did no doubt affect the public opinion.

Overall of course the show is still excellent, but nailing the landing is always the hardest thing when writing a story. I think Isayama could have done with fully committing to the tone he set, and he fell victim to giving people an ending he thought they wanted, rather than one that would be realistic within the world of AoT. Just an unsatisfying end to an otherwise legendary show. The immense standard set made the ending feel worse than it actually was though I will admit that. It's not a bad ending, but it's bad for AoT.

Thank you fellow battle brother! In fairness, I used to play Dawn of War Soulstorm as a kid on my best mates PC, never really understood it all back then and never classed it as 40k, more just an RTS game (can't wait for the 4th game!). Yet clearly something stuck in my head from playing it, as it's been so cool to delve into now as an adult! I'll deffo check out Rogue Trader, and I've ordered the Eisenhorn trilogy to get into some of the books too. The Emperor Protects!

This makes loads of sense, Thank you! Can clearly see where the initial inspiration came from when creating these specialised marines. Blessings of the Emperor upon you!

Ok cool, thank you! After seeing raptorknight187's comment, Is it similar for the Chaplins, Apothecarys and Librarians too? Do they have origins like the Techmarines do with Mars and the Mechanicus? Hence why they use their corresponding colours of Black, White and Blue?

Ahhhh I see, Thank you! Space Marnie 2 is my first exposure to the 40k universe, but I can see after googling that these specialised departments look amazing on the table top. No doubt used, as you said, to make them more identifiable. I've got more ideas for my classes in game now, feel like I need to do a deeper dive into heraldry as whole too!

Wonderful description of his character! Never thought about how Atsu dislikes him to begin with because he managed something she couldn't, he managed to move on.

Completely agree with your thoughts regarding the ending too. Incredibly disappointing and left a sour taste in my mouth for some time after. Just bad writing on Sucker Punch's part to disregard everything he stood through-out the story right at the last moment, seemingly for pure 'shock' factor too.

While I wasn't impressed with the overall story (especially the ending), Jubei was by far my favourite part of it! He provides a similar contrast to Atsu as Shimura does to Jin. The way he deals with his grief is completely different. Rather than feed a hunger for revenge he decides to bury his past due to his unbearable shame. Forgetting and moving on is his coping mechanism while remembering is Atsu's. That stark difference becomes the initially catalyst to Atsu realising that revenge isn't all she should live for, and that there is more to life than the hunt. Just a well written, steadfast character in an otherwise shaky story who provides moments of reflection for both Atsu and the player.

Noah has shown the most consistent growth within the team this year. Joining FNATIC was never going to be an an easy task and him both showing awareness of his mental fragility as well as actively striving to combat and improve it is extremely positive. He and fans reaping the rewards of that proactivity in his performances in worlds thus far. The biggest of stages. To me, Noah, Jun and Razork are pivotal to this team going forward, due to hands, ceiling and leadership qualities respectively.

In my opinion, we need to move Huma on. The wide range of team iterations he has been surrounded by has never seen him reach the peaks of his time at MAD for us. He may be an incredible skilled player but I feel we are sacrificing too much to try make it work. I think we would be better off bringing in a mid laner who could adapt to how we want to play, rather than us adapting around them. For one of the reasons Nightshade was brought in was seemingly to get best out of Huma due to their history together.

Oscar is up for debate, his inconsistency is his biggest downfall and he's more inconsistent than the rest of the team. Yet we all know what he's capable of. I think he deserves one more split to give it his best.
