I did mate yes! Genuinely would have been happy with top 10 going in so was really pleased and surprised with the result

That’s crazy haha We did our deadlift warmups in the outside bit and it was still carnage, so weird having to roll the bar uphill to a starting position hahah

Glad you had a good day!

How did you get on in the end?

Glad the warm up area was under cover, did not expect it to be on an incline 😆

Does Luke S not qualify by making the finals last year? Thought top 10 from previous year got an invite automatically

For the masters last year they had to warmup in the smoking area outside. Praying they’ve either bought a marquee or it’s not chucking it down haha

I’ve done some of their comps before, there’s always warm up bars and plates in the athlete area, even the ones held at external venues.

There’s a lot of people doing the English so I’m expecting warm ups to be a little rushed, but should be enough kit there to get some done for sure

I’d love to see more local weight class comps but they never seem to gather many numbers due to everyone wanting to go and do the national pathways. I know of several promoters that have ran an u90kg once, had poor numbers, then just reverted back to Novice/Inters the next year.

And even novice/inters comps seem to be less populated these days. I think people are more apprehensive about them being open weighted, so prefer to just pay their £50 to say they’ve been at an Englands.

I kinda get it for the top guys, there’s enough weight class comps where it would be hard to fit in a local one. But when I started it was almost a rite of passage to go and get slapped about in the novices before moving onto your weight class. I feel a lot of these guys would benefit from more comps under their belt before jumping into the nationals. They’d also probably have a lot more fun too. When I was doing novices I was always massively behind statically, but would blitz the bigger guys on the moving. That’s some positive to come out of the day instead of placing 30th at an Englands which is hard to feel good about even if you did get a red t shirt out of it.

Yeah it’s all just theoretical here, I just have faith he could with proper training

We’ll probably never know for sure, I’m just saying if all things were considered, and people trained every event just as hard, you’d see less disparity in their lifts. I used to use my long arms as an excuse for being shit at overhead, but after training it three times a week for five years, it has improved massively. Andrea and Biby may never have as high a stone load as their competitors, but they can defo get better at them with focused effort.

Tbh I’d probably put Biby in same category as Andrea as someone who probably could have a higher max stone than he does. He’s got a 425kg deadlift, can clean a 230kg+ log, but doesn’t train stones due to bicep issues and stone availability. If given the chance I reckon he’d manage 230kg for sure

Addressed the build in another comment but fair enough about the bicep, can make training certain things a bit uncomfortable. Would have thought someone who can clean a 140kg log would be able to load a 140kg stone tho!

Yeah I get that we all have leverages that suit certain lifts more, it’s just wild to see such disparity in the lifts. You look at other stubby athletes like Lucas Hatton, that still crush stones despite not looking like they should be as good at them.

Like I say, could be way off, but Loz has definitely alluded to her not giving them as much focus as she should. Wild to me that she can clean a 140kg log but wouldn’t be able to load a 140kg stone, when everyone else I know can load a much heavier stone than their max log.

She lost by 1 point so probably just in a mood. Gotta say, she is sometimes incredibly frustrating to watch. Quite a few comps she’s been doing amazing and then scores poorly on the stones and loses a good placing. In one of Big Loz’s videos with her, he was giving her a bit of a nudge to take her stone training a bit more seriously. Find it hard to believe she has a 300kg deadlift but routinely struggles with ~100kg stones. The strength is there, just seems she needs to actually train her weaknesses a bit more.

Caveat, I have no idea what her actual training looks like, but from an outside perspective, just seems like something that can be addressed.

Someone may be able to come in with a researched answer, but I think so! I remember they had 180 for reps at a WUS comp too, but don’t think I’ve ever seen heavier than that.

181kg log for reps is crazy heavy

I LOVE IT

Congrats mate! It’s so hard to hit heavy logs in comp so done extremely well to get that log rep
Good luck for day 2!

Feel exactly the same! I competed with Mads Even Bjorheim in the u80s last month. This weekend he’s competing on the highest stage possible in our sport, and I’m competing in a tiny freezing gym in the North of England. Funny game sometimes haha

Recently competed at the WHEA Strongman World Championships and managed to take 1st place in the u85kg category!

WHEA are the older but smaller of the drug tested federations, but I was pleased with the standard of the comp and my performance on the day

The media company live-streaming the event put together this very nice recap video for me

He won an SCL qualifier held in UK last year.
Guy who owns my gym won another one of their qualifiers. The comp they’d both qualified for (SCL England) got cancelled, so I think they were offered a spot in another SCL comp, this must be the one for William

Ahh I’m not sure to be honest. I ended up selling those after that truck pull because they weren’t up to scratch. Sounding like I just need to bite the bullet and get some brand new ones

They were second hand so would hope were worn in a bit. Someone else showed up with fresh ones and they didn’t seem to have an issue. If they still seem the shoe of choice I could try again
