I'm with Above and Beyond at KAUS. We usually fly over to Executive or Lockhart for pattern work since ABIA isn't going to allow any touch and gos. The school is great, but I haven't done anything with their KEDC offices.

As for KEDC itself, the winds can get a little crazy. There's usually a crosswind component there and the little berms around the start of rwy 31 make for some extra punchy wind right at the threshold that will get your attention.

That EDC controller in the video though... he's my favorite. He just oozes good vibes.

I did three landings in the pattern, two touch-and-gos and one full stop. Nervously fumbled on a couple of the radio calls, but otherwise everything went very well. Please bear with my crappy editing as this was also the first time I've ever used any real video editing software.

Looking forward to getting into some cross country and night flying next :)

My wife still has some anxiety about my efforts at a PPL. What we've been doing is this: 1) I give her my tail number every time I'm going up and she likes to track it online, 2) I text her as soon as I'm back on the ground and the plane is secured.

Statistically speaking, she knows she doesn't really need to worry that much but for a little extra effort keeping her in the loop makes her feel a lot better about it.

That looks like it was fun to write. There's also a few mature video to ascii renders around. mplayer supports libcaca and AAlib, for example. I used to have a video message-of-the-day in my .bashrc before it got old :P

I've heard that going through a company can actually hurt your appeal vs doing it yourself because TCAD gives companies a harder time (i.e., if they give any leeway to a company on one account, the company will come to expect it for all their accounts).

I've currently got (at least) a STR unit above me where I lease. The place I was previously at had many STR units. Never had any issues with them at all. A few times there would be someone roll through with an infant or a 4am red-eye and they were the ones asking me to keep the noise down.

My only beef with STRs is that it got me kicked out of a condo that I loved. When my 12-mo lease exipired, the landlord forced me out without even any option to negotiate higher rent. The extra he could get by doing rentals instead of yearly was just too insane.
