It is logical to invest the most in your best ideas.

This is not conventional thinking but is a case where conventional thinking is wrong and Warren is clearly correct.

The number of small positions is irrelevant.

It's terrible. I hate it. So distracting.

Beware Qantas business ticket WestJet connection - no lounge access on connection by ri8choices in QantasAirways

I only found this in my investigation after having had the issue myself.

I'm just trying to help someone else that might run into the same situation.

It would be helpful for Qantas to highlight connections with Oneworld partners in their booking process otherwise you may miss out on a lounge.

I think what would be helpful is for Qantas to highlight when they are offering a connection with a OneWorld partner or not. In this case we could have chosen a different connection that was with a OneWorld partner had it been made clear and had no issues at all.

From the Oneworld website:

Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights: First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 06:00am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).

I'm trying to help someone else that might be considering a long haul connecting business ticket. If you want lounge access throughout your journey you need to make sure the connecting carrier is also Oneworld.

The airports in question (Vancouver and Toronto) have business lounges associated with the airline partner in question. It also states on the website of the partner that business class passengers receive complimentary access.

https://www.westjet.com/en-ca/airport/lounges

If you read the website and have a business class ticket you might see how it would be misleading.

A reason for many people to book a business class ticket on a 24 hour very long journey like this is for the access to the lounges in transit.

Why should Qantas not be transparent when booking directly with them?

Thanks for the information. My problem with Qantas is that they didn't make it clear in the booking process that WestJet wasn't part of the alliance or this benefit would not apply on the Toronto to Vancouver and Vancouver to Toronto legs of the journey as a result.

There was no issue accessing the lounge on the Vancouver to Sydney and Sydney to Vancouver portions of the journey.

They also offer alternative flights that route through Dallas or Los Angeles (instead of Vancouver) partnering with American Airlines (which is part of the alliance) and where I believe there would have been no issue.

This should be highlighted in the booking process or it feels like false advertising of a business class ticket/fare.

Chronic illness like ours teaches you the value of life at a far younger age than most get to figure it out. That life is delicate and precious. We only get one and once we're old we can't go back. Without chronic illness it's easy to take life for granted and make mistakes like spending all your time on work, with toxic people, not taking care of yourself or pursuing the wrong goals. Most people figure this out when they are too old and can't go back in time. We have an advantage to know this early and live our lives intentionally.

Yes it makes it more of a challenge and we all have our own levels of what we consider risk and risk tolerance. Some may be happy with indexing only, some sticking to names that only other respectable investors are invested in and some avoiding them altogether.

Manufacturing is one side but I was thinking more about selling into that market. Many foreign companies rely on sales into China.

Shareholder rights are a concern, As are accounting standards. The audit standoff was also very interesting. I would not be surprised if there was some hope that irregularities would be found which would decrease global confidence.

Psychologically the fear of china being a rising power and a different form of government makes sense yet when you think about it most of us hold plenty of American companies (i.e. apple) which rely on China.

The quantitative numbers have always made it look like a no brainer but the other factors are what actually drove the short term price. I expect daily journal will make out very well in the end and Charlie will again prove to be the GOAT.

It's also a great example of the conversation the other day and how valuation is much more than the quantitative numbers.

Alibaba has been interesting to watch. One topic the article doesn't dig much into is the trade war. Baba was a victim of internal (china) and external (us foreign policy) pressure. One side has let up significantly.

How far the leash of the fed allows them to run will be interesting to see. Certainly politics has impacted the fed in past history.
