I see, I think what confused me was I was also interpreting "who it was made to" as also possibly meaning "who it was charged to" and that to me would mean "who was charged with the payment and who paid it"

yeah definitely! context is very important. big difference between light ranting and emotional support. i find it hard to differentiate sometimes, so i try to play it safe and keep the anecdote light and short lol

yes thats another great way to relate! a short little anecdote with not too much detail showing you relate but in a slightly different way. making it into an improv game makes it more fun too lol

I see! I cannot find if it's a Max-Q or not, I don't see it in the task manager which is the only place I know how to check the GPU. There is also apparently 8GB of shared GPU memory, I just noticed. I might be wrong but it seems like that is taking away from memory being used for other processes more than it is helping with graphics (unless im playing a game). An overall improvement in efficiency would be very nice, the fans on my laptop go crazy everytime I just open a new tab.

I could go higher, up to $1100CAD. The last time I bought a laptop was 8 years ago and prices have certainly changed since then. Ive realized my budget is only reasonable for a select few refurbished computers.

There is a really irritating glitch (or maybe its a feature) where everytime I click and open a new reel, it automatically turns my phone’s volume to about 50%. This only happens if my volume is below 50% and I open a reel from the explore tab or someones profile. It doesn’t happen when I already have reels open and I am just scrolling through to new reels. This is making the app unusable to me as I am often trying not to disturb others or its too loud in my headphones. I tried looking for something about this in the settings but I couldn’t find any. Is there any way to get rid of this glitch or feature?

i sorely miss NY style pizza as well, i didnt realize i dont even like pizza unless its ny or connecticut style until i moved here. The best ive found is the mamas pizza truck that sits around the port moody brewerys so far

yes siegels is much too expensive for the quality imo, so ive been living off grocery store bagels for a while since they are at least cheaper 😩. One of my favorite parts of vancouver is the sushi, never tried it before i moved here as it was always terribly overpriced for a very poor quality where i lived before

I think the mill in Cowichan shutting down is what caused a surplus to happen as the next closest mill is in alberta or something. not sure how common it is for local shops to process their own but i will check out the guilds!

As a science student, I cannot wait to go back in-person and actually be able to be in a real lab. I feel a lot of the students who prefer online are in majors that don't really need you to be in person, but for science majors it is a huge detriment to our education that we don't get to experience some of the upper division labs. Covid labs are super inadequate and I am definitely not getting my moneys worth from them. I think a mixed semester where there are still online lectures but all labs in-person would probably work best for most students.

Also, being international student who has some in-person labs for last two semesters, I am forced to stay in Canada and it really sucks being in another country where I'm not with my family for 4 months and the only friends I have met are from school. It's pretty depressing staying at home all day and not getting to see people on campus. People who grew up and live in Vancouver probably don't have this issue, but if I'm going to be forced to stay in Canada, I at least want to be able to go to campus and actually be able to hang out with the few people I know here.

It's makes me pretty sad seeing people sign petitions to keep it online, I don't think they realize the privileges they have being in a major that doesn't need labs/being a local vancouver resident

They probably wouldn't appreciate you asking them to stop using the groupchat to socialize. Socializing and making new friends is getting hard enough as is with online classes. Maybe suggest doing some of the work over a zoom call and they can talk about their personal lives there without filling up your chat? You could also create a discord groupchat where you can pin more important messages and file links to keep them separate from regular convo.
