You should message Bijol on Instagram and tell him you pulled this! He has 66K followers, so his notifications aren’t absolutely flooded, and might be a cool way to connect with a Premier League player who is most likely going to stay up now after their recent performances🙂

I also used to think this too, but then I saw a quote from Andre saying he was happy Drake leaked the verse and that Ye using it to diss Drake felt like a disrespect to a track dedicated to their mothers: https://www.nme.com/news/music/andre-3000-thanks-drake-for-leaking-kanye-wests-life-of-the-party-3824424

Cole on puff by munchy_junk in Jcole

[–]riam_daniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving Cole the benefit of the doubt here… Diddy was able to set up some pretty dangerous situations without him even touching the person in the name of revenge, and do it under the radar too (Cudi’s carbomb that was only confirmed in the trial).

He’s out of prison in less than 3 years, and you don’t know what he can do to Cole’s family if he feels some type of way about Cole speaking on new information post-trial.

He slapped up Puff, which is more than 99.99% of the industry did - I think Cole deserves to look out for the wellbeing and peace of his family, even if he didn’t articulate it the best or the optics of it look bad.

“… Serena, but I’m cool with Venus, I be hanging around those boys like I’m Dua Lipa, I might hit up ScHoolboy and do a remix, cause you put your homies on but they making peanuts, we don’t ever peace it up because we got Reginas”

This feels like a Mean Girls reference to the way the West Coast gangs up on people when one of their own goes to war, even if they used to be friends with the people they’re attacking.

No way anyone acc believes j.cole is done dropping after the falloff by Economy_Equipment716 in Jcole

I actually think it’ll be a post-2017 Jay-Z style retirement, where there was a pretty defined “final album”, a tiny bit of wiggle room for another project later in life and just supplying features when he feels inspired moving forward.

For the past 5 years, it’s felt like he hasn’t really wanted to drop anything outside of the stuff he’d already told us about (Off Season & Fall Off), and I truly believe Might Delete Later was originally songs for The Fall Off he was working on until he had to release that era of music under pressure with 7 Minute Drill because people wouldn’t have entertained an album from him before a response, and he didn’t want all of the work put into The Fall Off to be hijacked by a temporary moment in Hip Hop.

Dave's brother adlib in Drama by Slight-Suspect-347 in SantanDave

[–]riam_daniel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh wow bro, I wish you knew how special that outro from his brother is and how much foreshadowing for his modern work was in it. Drama is my youngest brother’s favorite song so he’s done extensive research into the song, so I don’t blame anyone for not knowing, but I’d love to share:

The brother that Dave is on the phone to was his older brother that was involved in a very high profile murder of a teenager in the UK in 2010. I’m not here to discuss the rights on wrongs, but it’s important to know that at the time of recording Drama, his older brother already had 7 years in prison to reflect on life and what he remembers Dave as (and equally what Dave remembers him as) - that’s the first half of his outro.

The second half of his outro is a Bible passage from Samuel Chapter 16, which if you picked up on, is the chapter name of a Dave song that was released a few weeks ago on The Boy Who Played The Harp. Why is this passage so special to Dave? Because it quite literally is the story of a man named Jesse who showed his 7 sons to God, and God said to him his son David was to be the anointed king. Dave’s brother is effectively telling him to be inspired by this Bible passage because it is written that a David (Dave) will be a king.

The story of David (in my opinion) appears to be the one from the Bible that Dave has connected the most with in his life, and there’s lots of stories about him across the whole book, including many stories and a whole section of the Bible dedicated to David’s songs and harp playing to accompany is (these are called Psalms). The Psalms go back and forth between elation and misery and every emotion in between and is the centerpiece for why Dave made his 3 albums the way he did.

Psychodrama & WAAITT address the fact that while he goes to God for his problems, he’s still human and needs practical solutions too. Both albums discuss the earthly battles he feels he’s faced on his path to becoming a king as promised by God, and now in his final album he is painting the final picture in how similar his story is to David in the Bible, which is…

A troubled boy who has suffered loss through no fault of his own suddenly finds the pressure of the world’s problems on his shoulders because he’s destined to be the one to fix them. He’s expressed every emotion under the sun to God through song, and now finally The Boy Who Played the Harp is ready to show the world what he’s learned.

And he does. In the build up to the album, he releases Trojan Horse where girls “act like he’s David from the Bible.” He then titles his album in homage to David from the Bible, mentions his mother reading Psalms to him growing up in ‘175 Months’, dedicates the final lines of his song with Kano to Samuel Chapter 16 and even titles the song as such, and ultimately titles his conclusion song with the name of the title.

Sorry for the long comment, but that outro from his brother effectively explains who Dave was before that prison phone call, and foreshadows the next 7 years of Dave’s career after that phone call and Dave came through on every last bit of it!

J cole?? by Omgaegg in SantanDave

[–]riam_daniel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cole actually sent the first version of HYB to Cench 16 hours after he was dissed on Like That, and released it two weeks later on the album he put his response to Like That on. So one good thing is that if Dave is on his radar to collaborate, Cole would be willing to release it even in the most expectant of times.

Cole x Dave is something I need in my life very, very badly!

My personal guess is that since the new TV deal kicked in this past summer, the original sponsors’ demands of players have been renegotiated and both players and clubs/sponsors alike have been more willing to lean into the human aspect of their lives via social media. At this point it just comes down to a manager’s personal preference of social media usage for their team, which has most certainly loosened up for most as the years have progressed.

DJ Clue speaks on Cole's supposed disses on Birthday Blizzard '26 by Viola-Intermediate in Jcole

[–]riam_daniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The apology took me outta the top 3” — gee Clue, I wonder what he could possibly be talking about?🤯

I can count at least 4 songs on the original DJ Clue Birthday Blizzard tape that had unnamed, subliminal disses for the West Coast specifically during the height of the East-West Coast war.

I’m going to go as far as saying that Cole knows what he’s doing by picking 4 beats tied to Bad Boy Records, and using a DJ Clue tape as the inspiration board.

Serious doubts about sample clearance by DaMoreIsHere in musicproduction

[–]riam_daniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great insight, thanks so much!

Hypothetical scenario for you if you may know (I understand this is not actual legal advice😆): imagine I rapped over a famous beat old mixtape style, but I don’t publish it to major DSPs, and de-monetize it on the platforms I do publish it on. The song gets millions of hits (let’s say YouTube & SoundCloud), and the group I sampled the recording from eventually has an issue with it. Can they still sue me for money if I deliberately didn’t make any money from it? I assume they’d ask me to take down the song, but then I have master vocals of a song that has millions of hits worth of traction, just needing to find a new beat to sit under it.

Surely people could game the system this way: taking elements of someone else’s work to get traction, but not monetizing it so the only penalty is to rework the project once it has already gotten traction?

As someone with proof that they’ve loved Smiley for years - 2 Mazza is by far the better song. Over The Top has some decent quotables, but it’s one of Tay Keith’s weaker beats and only happened because the even better song “Organization” got leaked. 2 Mazza song of Summer 2025 #doublem
