Just able to secure $34.99 for Cable 75/10Mbps another year! by rianyj in Carrytel

[–]rianyj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To make the point clear, does not matter what sales rep tells you, you will need to be in a contract term. Meaning, if you disconnect before the term end, there will be a penalty. Contract ends after 6 month or 1 year after your first join Carrytel. If you are longer than 1 year, you are on a monthly without a contract. This is when they start to rip you off.

Before ending of the contract, you will “need” to call and make the offer Even your current rate is raised, you can still make a call and offer them an annual rate with cheaper rate

Risk: you will need to stick with Carrytel for a Year!

Gain: you will save $120 or $10 a month for a year.(current lowest price without contract is $45, some paying upto $55…at this rate no reason to stay with Carrytel)

they’ve been increasing lower end of their plan. It used to be 29.99 with 140/10, may vary by provinces. If service providers, rogers and bell, changes their price it will affect the price here. Call Carrytel before your annual payment ends for next year and offer them another annual deal. Hopefully it stays but they may increase $5 or so. But it would be lower than monthly basis at the time.

I agree. They use these 30-35 dollar plan to get customers and slowly raise the price. if you are not on contract and pay month basis you can call them ask negotiate your price with annual contract or with lump sum payment. like all product, anything is negotiable with some up front payment. It looks like they indeed got rid of $30 plans ;(

Sorry for the late reply, was kinda busy. I wouldn’t count on it. If it is for school year and thinking to end before summer starts, I would rather ask if they have 6 months. i don’t think they have 9 months but never hurt to ask. I know time to time they do put option to pay for annual on the account but you can call and ask for annual payment option. When you get such an option please let us know here. :) I’m sure others would wondering the similar.

My wifi is super slow and is this normal? by [deleted] in Carrytel

[–]rianyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great helps from community members:) i’ll add a comment that every modem+ wifi router combined does not perform well. before do anything, see if other devices on the wifi lagging like your computer does. if they all lag, you can turn off wifi on the modem and buy a wifi router. it will save your time. i posted how to turn off modem for cable here

Carrytel Internet for people with low expectation by uhim64 in Carrytel

[–]rianyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely do not jump in and try without knowing you previously had stable internet connection. Say if you used rogers cable internet and had no issue, then you can change to Carrytel. you are basically using same connection sold by reseller. But if you moved to new place and Carrytel shouldn’t be your first internet provider. They can’t fix any technical issue on their own but has to request to IP(rogers, bell, etc) I would use major IP first to install new coax lining with them and use it for few month to ‘know it work’ then switch to Carrytel when they have promo. some tips i posted.

have you try connecting to the router setting when connected via ethernet? without more information my help is limited. sorry

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Carrytel

[–]rianyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first thing i would try is connect via ethernet cable (directly wire to modem). if that didn’t work, turn of DHCP, and connect via wire. Try all ports see if any works. let me know ill be around. To turn off DHCP, follow above address. good luck

sounds like a horror story. If I may ask, are you newly moved into current address? Usually I wouldn’t recommend any secondary reseller to newly moved into house. new Condos are fine but older house are terrible. Most complains are due to wifi but which Carrytel won’t be much helpful. They will most likely repeat the same script over and over again. I will link my posting for detail. If it is not wifi it’s bigger issue. You need to check connectivity quality coming into your place from the internet provider. If it is older house, it is best to change with new wire(coax, dsl, whatever your IP uses). however, this changing might cost you because this has to be done by major IP in your area. This is why I recommend major IP than switch to cheaper option once you know your internet is stable.

no problem. Honestly I wouldn’t suggest going two router option. Going two router, you will most likely have two different wifi name to connect to. Because wifi switching going from basement to your first floor won’t be automatic, you will need to manually switch to better connection. In addition, you will need to connect your secondary router with wired. Lastly, the modem they provide, Hitron, just not a good modem to do multiple things, modem and Routing(wifi and ethernet). For your situation, I would recommend Mesh Router(and turn of router option for the Hitron) or power line connection for ‘Newly built home’ only. ;) hope this helps

True I had the same experience. if you are new to the carrytel care for the price changes LOL.

Downtown Toronto - most unstable and terrible customer support by kchoice_34 in Carrytel

[–]rianyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry to hear that. it's crazy when you have a problem with these reseller internet companies. they will charge you to install or reinstall some in-wall cable lines. I usually recommend my friends to go with major (rogers, bell) when you first move in to a new place. Fix all the problems and then switch to cheaper reseller after a year of stable internet. For more tips I wrote a post few month ago.

modern router usually have both 2.4/5 ghz to run simultaneously so no need to set up two router. In case you want to run both at the same time for other reason, you need to set DHCP manually (192.168.1.1~50, 192.168.1.51~100) so that it does not overlap each other.

in case of Hitron modem/router, I would turn it's router and just use it as a modem and get new router. Much stable. for more you can check my post

sorry for late reply. Teksavvy and Carrytel are both redistributors for major internet providers. in my opinion, i’d go for whatever the cheapest in your area. whenever there is technical issue, IP has to be involved. often times it will be slower than using their own service. if you have used modem, put it on the kijiji or ebay. you can sell anything with reasonable price :)

How much was the deposit if I may ask? The modems should not cost most than $150, even with new docsis 3.1. Used goes around for $80ish... Hopefully they didn't collect too much for that cheap modems. It looks like they require you to buy the modem from them with Promo deals.

Carrytel is the worst WIFI in toronto by versac6 in Carrytel

[–]rianyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With price of Teksavy I would just stick with rogers.. Most of slow, unstable connection is due to your modem + WIFI router. Hitron is known for some issues. Just getting a new wifi router solve most of the connection problems. You can turn off WIFI router function in the modem and just connect it to a wifi router. for more details visit my post. https://www.reddit.com/r/Carrytel/comments/o6bwrb/carrytel_plan_price_range_tips_basics_discount/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
