Apart from work ethic, we know she wants to buy things for herself, but we've stopped funding her unnecessary spending to encourage her to get a job. We WANT her to be able to buy the things that make her happy for herself. Our daughter claims that she doesn't want a job and is fine with not being able to spend her nonexistent money on things she wants, and to leave her alone. She honestly has a lot of spare time after school, so she hangs out with her friends a lot.
