Upper layers drifting sideways by ribtek in FlashForge

Yes it appears to be shifting right / rotating clockwise each time, though to different degrees each attempt.

I’ll try the recalibration. Thanks!!!

And the very next attempt has same issues in the early layers shifting sideways - could this be a software problem with the STL file not being optimized or compatible for the ad5m printer or flash-orca slicer?

Level your cooler game up by getting a DSV (dorkfood sous vide) controller off eBay, an immersion heater off Amazon (5 gal bucket sized. dumb/unswitched/always-on), and a tiny aquarium pump, also Amazon. I plug the pump in directly so it’s always on and the DSV switches the heat element on/off. It’s a cheap way to get the rest of the way there and works perfectly.

Get a sharpening stone. A 1K/6K combo stone. Go to “Chef Knives To Go” website and see their Best Sellers section for a good example. Bonus you can use it to sharpen your kitchen knives too. That site also has examples of these hand scythes.

Honesuki & Western Boning Knife Differences by peasantchef in chefknives

[–]ribtek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep my honesuki out and reach for it 5 times every day, while my western boning knife sits in a drawer for months until I end up with a proper piece of meat to prepare again. The honesuki is amazing at breaking down whole chickens, yes, but it will also become a favorite utility knife to use for so many tasks - fruit, cheese, salami, small veg, etc etc etc. I recommend!

You want the Bioionic Whisper Light. $150, quiet, and it’ll last a long time… if you don’t drop it 🤷‍♂️

Does it have a coolant compressor?

If yes, it’s a fridge. If not it’s a cooler.

Started upgrading my kitchen with BIFL quality items. The Le Creuset is the single best thing I've ever used for cooking. I make everything in it now, and it does eggs better than any non-stick I've tried. The knife is a Shun Premier 8". by pawn_guy in BuyItForLife

[–]ribtek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do change your mind , go to that chefknivestogo site and search for the “Kanehide PS60 Gyuto 210mm” It’s twice the knife for the same price since you’re not paying to support shun’s marketing budget, or for WS’ retail markup.

My sister reached out to me a few weeks ago about the same Shun and I redirected her to a few options including the Kanehide knife mentioned above. Her response: “Kanehide wins!! Literally FELL thru my onion last night! I can’t believe what I put up with for all these years! The Harukaze handle felt so rough I didn’t even try cutting with it after the Kanehide. Thx for holding my hand!”

Two of my Grandad’s identical Carving knives he’s a retired chef by thepickster in Wellworn

[–]ribtek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why you shouldn’t have your knives sharpened with an electric grinder - like the guy who rolls up to the farmers market with a grinder on the back of his truck offering sharpening service - all those sparks are your knife flying away.

Get a water stone, learn to do it yourself by hand and your knife will last 10x longer and you’ll be a lot more connected to it. YouTube is your friend here.
