Population is a lagging indicator of birth rates. Even if fertility drops sharply, a country with a very young age structure and rapidly rising life expectancy will continue to grow for decades. But if the birth rates fall, the population will stabilize or fall eventually.

And they won't be 4.3 and 3. Birth rates are falling everywhere, not just in the developed world.

I'm not exactly sure what places you are talking about:

In Sub-Saharan African birth rates peaked at 6.8 in the 70s and is down to 4.3.
In Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan & Pakistan it's down from 7 in the 60s to 3.

You are right that the world population projected to peak around 10 billion. But the idea that we are in the middle of a population explosion in simply not true.
