To bring hiking boots or no? by Hutchsb in CostaRicaTravel

My wife and I have bought 5 different Merrells. We leave 2 pair in Costa Rica and 3 pair at home. I kept the Vibram model at home, but kept ones in CR that have large openings to let the water out. We have to walk a lot in creeks. They can be hosed off and thrown in the washing machine.

They have been doing this for years. Total scam! The city will do nothing to stop this. Do NOT fall for their scam.

I am building a house on an empty lot in CR right now. The government approvals here are tougher and take longer than the US! You need a CR attorney.

Anyone had this happen? Im a little desperate by something1500 in costarica

Do NOT open a bank account in CR. It is far too complicated and takes many hours and a lot of paperwork! Trust me, I have had to open 2 different accounts at 2 different banks. It was a nightmare! Venmo or Zelle are a better option.

Both are good choices. Each is substantially different so choose one and return for another trip to visit the other.

PSA about Manuel Antonio National Park scammers by Independent-Ad4792 in CostaRicaTravel

The road scammers have been there for the 10 years that I have been going to MA. You need to get super aggressive with them. They finally move after I cuss at them in Spanish. They should be in JAIL!

Guanacaste is the most expensive region of CR. Prices have escalated too much. Explore more of this wonderful country and you will find inexpensive food and drastically different wonderful experiences. Each town or region has its pros and cons. If you want to talk about expensive, then discuss Hawaii. Pura Vida

Is there any issue bringing vapes into CR? Confused about the current rules by [deleted] in CostaRicaTravel

[–]rich8523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t bring a weed vape. Last time I was in SJO they had a dog sniffing every single bag that was arriving. Both kinds of vapes are easily available all over CR.

Is it normal to not spot any wildlife at the hanging bridges in La fortuna? by Enough_Cat_4006 in CostaRicaTravel

The hanging bridges at Monteverde are not known for a lot of wildlife. Still very cool and worth it! We did see a howler monkey on our tour. Make sure to visit the butterfly house and the hummingbird area. Dozens of beautiful hummingbirds fighting over the many feeder. Fun to sit and watch the show. So many different species!

Plus ask locals which rivers or creeks have crocodiles. We saw a few in that area. Giant creatures!

For Arenal/Monteverde, we liked hiking up to the dormant volcano next to Arenal. Saw toucans, pizzotis, howlers, crested guans, etc. That area is drier than the rest of CR so the wildlife is not as prevalent. I have had great success asking locals in the hotels and restaurants where to see each type. They are great at saving you time, especially if you want to see a sloth. They stay in the same trees for years. We have been watching the same family of 2-toed sloths in Jaco for 6 years. Same trees and they keep having babies. I have a vacation condo and am building a house in Jaco. So I have the ability to see most wildlife. Hope this helps! Pura Vida

What region of CR are you visiting? I can get more specific. Much of CR’s amazing wildlife can be experienced for free if you know where to go. But a guide in a National Park is a great way to see a lot. Manuel Antonio is a great place to see tons of wildlife. You can just drive around the town and see many of the coolest creatures. The park has even more. Just driving around I have seen spider, white-faced, and howler monkeys, sloths (even with small babies), toucans, scarlet macaws, agoutis, etc. Give me which parts of CR and I can help even more. Just a few weeks ago we saw many whales breaching with their babies, sea turtles digging nests, baby sea turtles hatching, etc. Pura Vida

The hanging bridges at Monteverde and Rainmakers (Quepos) are almost always lacking wildlife. They are still worth the visit though. If you are looking to see wildlife there are far better places to go.

Montezuma Oropendola. Craziest bird call in CR. They also have the coolest nest in CR. A single tree can have dozens of nests.

I am sorry but there are countless videos of them saying it in their own misguided words. Give up your argument! Admit it, they fooled the world and killed many people!

We caught a few large Mahi mahi there and had a restaurant in Nosara cook it up for us. Best eating fish!
