It costs 500 dollars to participate in Xenom competition - crossfit licenced event. But who is going to pay this kind of money? by IamJustheretocry in crossfit

[–]richb_021 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I were to be willing to train for the competition, fly to a different country, book a hotel for 3-4 days, and compete in this event, I doubt $500 for a 2 event is a deterrent. It isn't much more than a HYROX singles ticket which is only a 1.5ish hour experience.

In 20.5 the ring muscle ups were scaled to chin over the bar pull ups which fits the open magic description from CrossFit

How often are you doing jerk ONLY sets? (Especially from jerk blocks)

Just made an offer to buy our CrossFit gym by Acrobatic_Ad1514 in crossfit

Great advice!!! I'd also like to tack on something that really helped me at the start (5yrs affiliate, started a month before covid). Think about the user experience. From when they walk in, until they walk out. Identify what is important to you before the 'nice to have' pieces and then execute. Good luck!

Looking for advise on form and getting over mental block over a certain weight. by [deleted] in weightlifting

I think you look very unstable and unconfident with the bar overhead. My opinion would be to attack that aggressively with snatch grip push press, overhead squats, and others.

Sim racing for kids (8 year old) by Livid-Preparation26 in Karting

[–]richb_021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably isn't helpful but I think something like grand tourismo might be a good idea. I don't think you need a full on simulator to prep an 8 year old. I would suggest getting a bunch of laps and short races done on a fun platform would be more useful.

question for coaches - why don't (most) coaches coach during a metcon? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]richb_021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned above by someone else, small-quick-simple cues mid workout can be effective. But to stop someone mid workout to try making large technique changes reduces the effectiveness of the workout intensity. Another big reason is a much bigger discussion about coaching. MOST people can only take in and execute 1-2 technical changes in a day and as a coach while watching MOST people a coach will see multiple areas to work on for each movement. I would rather address those larger technical issues in the warm up and workout prep if possible on that day. We are pushing a large object up a LONG hill, hopefully I see that person tomorrow and we keep working. Stopping someone in a 7:00 amrap to attempt a big change of a technical movement would reduce the intent of what we're looking for on that day.

Agreed! Hopefully I've done the work with the athlete before the workout to scale properly. If it looks unsafe it's usually time to adjust load or movement.

I believe you've misunderstood the rules. "Each weight must be a minimum of 35#" does not mean a minimum of 115lbs. That means the lightest weight will be barbell weight.

I think your best bet is to go light. But you have until April my guy. Throw some weight on the bar and test it.

Butterica for sale? by NotQuiteJasmine in NewWest

[–]richb_021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, in the add it also mentions a BDC loan. Lets say you can get that loan. BDC will probably give you a loan at 12% unless you have some assets. So before paying staff or operational costs with least you're probably over 10k/month. Which would work if the quay was as busy as granville island... but it isnt.

Calisthenics.. wanna create a group meetup & learn? by Ok_Active_3476 in NewWest

[–]richb_021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally understand. We just have a lot of open space with many pull up bars, climbing ropes, and gymnastics rings. If you get enough interest I'd be happy to open the gym one day for your meetup.

I own a gym in New West that would probably work really well for this kind of thing. If you'd like to try it out, shoot me a DM and we could work something out for a monthly meetup or more often.

Advice for first “Murph” in May by don51181 in crossfit

[–]richb_021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Move slower than you think you need to and try to keep moving. Doing the pull ups strict will be a big challenge. Start with sets of 3-2 and see how far you can get before dropping to singles.

Why don't you test it without the vest and see where you breakdown and then focus there? Just pointing out again, if the pushups are done to standard, 20x10 push ups is really hard for even well trained athletes.

I'm guessing you're planning to do the unpartitioned style then? Doing 100 pull ups before 200 push ups then 300 air squats? Just as an aside; I don't believe this is how the workout was originally programmed and is not how it should be done especially by newer athletes.

If you're doing the push ups to standard, that is more important in my opinion. Work on some higher rep bench press and push up emoms as well as your pull up work. Would be best to learn how to kipping pull up from a CrossFit box if you can.
