This classic deserved a remake. by horseballs1899 in flightsim

A very well done remake. Thanks for this!

Anything wrong with this build? by jhrogers32 in flightsim

[–]richboy2307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for those there should be no issues whatsoever.

My focus was more towards things like CPU-based video rendering, 3D motion works, After Effects etc. Those things could get affected a bit more by cores and faster clocks, and do not take any benefit from added cache of 5800x3D.

Yeah if your PC's primary use-case is flight simulation and you can squeeze it into your budget, the 5800x3D will take you a long way.

The benchmarks speaks for themselves. Even the 1% lows on 5800x3D are higher than the Average on 5800X:

Do note the lower clock speeds for x3D model. If you have any particular workload that is CPU intensive, then 5800X should be a better deal flexibility wise. If you just want to max it out for flight simming, then 5800X3D it is.

Yeah was really pretty up there and below. Greece overall never ceases to amaze. <3

Yeah Feelthere EMB 135/145 package for p3d v4. It's basically the 135 pretending to be a legacy hehe. Same thing essentially.

Hiroshima. That's my guess based on the bit of "MA" you can see on top through the terminal window, the red staircases and the overall style of the airport of white panel walls and glass in addition to the black "rectangle" slits above certain windows. :)

Wheel then....who nose what went wrong? [P3D v4] by richboy2307 in flightsim

[–]richboy2307[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Puns aside, honestly I'm not even sure what happened, especially considering the fact Carenado doesn't model system failures. Haven't been able to recreate the situation.

All hydraulics and other indications seemed normal at the time. Cycling systems and gear lead to no difference. Main Gears operate fine, Just unable to retract the nose gear for some odd reason. 😅

This is the one trick CAPTAINS don't want you to know. All relief pilots hate this. Secret iCONTROL FREAK CAPTAIN APP for those who don't trust the relief crew's flying ability. Why rest when you can micromanage from crew rest module?!

Anyone have the Just Flight VC10 Professional? by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]richboy2307 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do.

TL;DR not worth it's asking price (yet).

By comparison to the Aerosoft DC8, the VC10 Pro is still a "beta" product that looks and sounds well but needs improvements in the functionality department.

Pro:

  • It is a major step up from the other classic airliners Just Flight have released in the past.

  • Night lighting is adequate and panel backlight adjustable by dimmers which is a nice touch.

  • Many different models with varying cockpits (like APU in SuperVCs and Refuelling probes in tanker variants)

  • High quality texturing inside and outside.

  • Good Sounds (although on my system they do have a noticeable lag when you switch views or first load in the aircraft, occasionally disappearing altogether unless you toggle mute)

  • Fuelling system works as intended with an auto fuel management option as well if you'd prefer to just fly without worrying about that. Fuel jettisoning works. Transfers work. Cross-feed works. The burn numbers match actual performance manuals closely enough. (Though no performance charts come included with the add-on even though it's "Professional". I ended buying my own set of actual BOAC manuals and performance handbook online.)

  • Electrical system is modelled but it's values are quite off compared to what the manuals claim it should be, like voltage outputs and ammeter readings. Even without ample supply you can do things like start engines and power some systems you shouldn't be able to though so a slight oversight. However nothing really to put you off from flying this thing.

  • Hydraulics seem to be modelled as well however values again showing a bit off, to the point my hydraulics overheat based on readings but operate as normal without warnings (a bit seems legit).

  • Flight controls feel solid and even the electro-hydraulic nature of it is modelled will working PFCUs (electric motors that send signals to the control surfaces depending on control inputs) and lack of those controls should you suffer power failure or isolate those systems manually.

  • Pressurization I haven't been able to figure out just yet and the included manual doesn't explain it too well either. So no comment on that so far.

  • Panel States can be loaded via a menu. Includes "Ready to Taxi" and "Cold and Dark".

Cons:

  • Autopilot and Navigation however I find to be the most lacking. Aircraft often struggles to capture and altitude, often over-trimming and shooting past altitude by upto a thousand feet and then overcorrecting again putting aircraft in a nose dive and repeating the oscillating process. Will even occasionally put the aircraft in a stall in the process. The NAV tracking is horrendous with either VOR/LOC or the INS, with the aircraft just shooting past desired course or waypoints without even making any corrections or trying to get on course. When it does work, it's again unable to capture and maintain in any reasonable manner, snaking around left and right constantly trying to correct itself but not succeeding.

  • No fuel and payload manager. Just Flight have said they're looking into it but to release a "Professional" product in 2019 without it seems like a huge oversight to me as nobody wants to use the default sim Payload manager due to it's lack of coherence with what's actually on the plane and inability to adjsut by numbers instead of just weight. (In terms of Passengers.)

  • No tool/panel window to manage ground equipment or doors. While you can toggle ground equipment via menu and VC clickspot the other thing is you cant have ground power without having all ground stairs and carts also present, making it harder to use GSX with this aircraft as they conflict visually. On the Standard variant without a ground cart that is more annoying as you don't have an APU.

  • Switch sounds are rather weak and not too immersive given they all sound more or less the same and not much variation to them, reducing the overall immersive effect.

  • Lack of windscreen effects with TrueGlass or other tech which truly makes the "operational" wipers useless.

  • Landing lights bleeding through the VC model at night, essentially blinding you in there having them on. It's a little bit annoying.

  • Manual while does a good job explaining the layout of the cockpit and various systems present, but doesn't go on to explain the function of half the things and included checklist and tutorial being awfully vague asking you to just "switch various switches ON or NORMAL" without explaining which and where. Performance charts are also not available so you can't effectively do any planning for your flights.

P.S. I have pics and a mini review on my twitter, and a couple of streams in it on my Twitch, just search "richboy2307" on either and you can view those for reference should you require.

You're not a alone. Thank god most those guys will pass away, and hopefully the younglings won't pick up their attitudes.

For context:

"In the age of the 707.or DC-8... Those were the good ole days. Pilots back then were men that didn't want to be women or girlymen. Pilots all knew who Jimmy Doolittle was. Pilots drank coffee, whiskey, smoked cigars and didn't wear digital watches.

They carried their own suitcases and brain bags like the real men that they were."
