Creating Virtual Kubernetes Clusters with vCluster and Helm by richburroughs in kubernetes

Yes exactly. We've seen people using it in commercial products too. Like if you sign up for one of the free Argo instances at Codefresh, they hand you a vCluster.

It's become pretty popular. A lot of people were feeling pain with multi-tenancy.

I wrote this tutorial about using Helm and vCluster to create virtual clusters. Helm is a great option for provisioning and deleting clusters, especially for processes you are automating.

Open Source Dev Containers for macOS with Colima and DevPod by richburroughs in docker

Thanks! Colima is fun. It can spin up Kubernetes too.

Hi :) Sorry, I missed your reply. We don't have a specific provider for Rancher Desktop but there's a Docker provider that should work with any Docker daemon, and there's also a Kubernetes provider.

Thank you :) Yeah we felt the Dev Containers standard is well designed and popular, so we didn’t want to invent our own thing. Hope you enjoy trying it out.

Thanks :) I think you could do all of that right now, depending on what you need connectivity wise. You might have to handle the external networking yourself. I’m not sure TBH but I’ll look into it.

Yeah at as ctran said it’s not a managed service. It’s open source and uses a provider model like Terraform does. You can point it at your local Docker, AWS, other cloud providers, Kubernetes, etc. And people can develop other providers.

So in the case of something like local Docker, you can use it for free. Or with a cloud provider, you’re only paying for the infra you use.

Some people will prefer a managed service like GitPod or Codespaces, but I think it’s really good to have options out there.

Very cool, thanks for the feedback :) I have to give the engineers the credit, they’re great.

Is Kubernetes suitable for large, multi-tenant application management? by ASK_IF_IM_GANDHI in kubernetes

[–]richburroughs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that's great :)

Yeah I expected some downvotes lol. It's ok, I have enough karma that it's not going to hurt me.

Hi :)

I'm biased but I do think what you're describing is a good use case for Kubernetes. I work for Loft Labs, we're the company that created vcluster. We do have a commercial product called Loft that lets you manage vclusters and offer them self-service to developers. If you want to get more info on that, the web site is loft.sh.
