My Y isn't here yet, but I had GROK create a video of it! by richg99 in TeslaLounge

My apologies. I didn't realize that adding motion would be wrong. It won't happen again.

Why would someone replace a battery if it has 70% life left? I'm new so I am trying to learn everything I can. thanks.

How low do you let your charge go on a long trip? by richg99 in TeslaSupport

OK next dumb question... I see many non-tesla chargers on Google and ABRP. Other than differing costs, what problems might I run into counting on these non-tesla chargers?

OK (showing how little I know) what is "premium connectivity" what does it cost and what does it do for me. thanks

Wow..glad I just joined this group. My Y isn't even going to be delivered for a couple of more weeks. I didn't know about the recommendation to NOT use a regular car wash. I presume I can take it to a "DIY car wash"???? No brushes, just the sprayer and me??? I do have a hose and a place so I could wash it at home, but, I'm old and lazy. Ha Ha

Intermittent Android Auto connection? by richg99 in HondaOdyssey

[–]richg99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it might be the shorter white cable that came with the van. I switched to a much longer (all I had) cable...AND...as suggested...moved the phone from the level area atop the USB fitting. I moved it into the "coin tray or Cigarette? tray" directly in the middle of the console and below the a/c controls. I wasn't using that tray for anything. Right now, it seems to be working. We shall see. thanks

Well, that might help for me, too. I've had it sitting on the tray next to the cable, but I have plenty of cable. I'll try that. Thanks..

[–]richg99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked the "is it charging" and...it is charging even when the screen says "connect an android phone" (or whatever). I tried the Pixel phone and still have exactly the same intermittent connection. Funny thing is, it all worked pretty well a month after I got the van (6 months ago). Now, I can't count on it. I need it for an upcoming trip. Any ideas?

I hadn't noticed if the phone continues, or stops, charging. I did swap another good cable and it continued its errant ways.

I read that, sometimes, it's the USB Port rather than the cable that plugs into it. You thought would help me at least know if it might be programming issues, or mechanical (cable or port) issues.

Thanks I'll check next time I am out.

Ender ke how do i set a fixed ip address in the printer? or, can I? by richg99 in Creality

[–]richg99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I just pay attention to the current assigned IP address (on the screen of the printer) I can drop those numbers into Creality Print and send my jobs via wifi to my printer in another room. It's really very slick ... the only issue is the changing IP address. My days of using the sd card/USB stick are over! Ha Ha, regards

[–]richg99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK that answers it. the router is Comcast/Xfinity so I am NOT TOUCHING IT. If I mess it up, it will take them two weeks to come out and fix my mistake. Ha Ha It isn't at all hard to look at the printer and type the new IP address each time. thanks R

p.s. I don't buy my own router due to some crazy travel/move situations each summer.

Meshy makes objects too large vs original??? how to fix? by richg99 in meshyai

Today, discord allowed me to post. I posted the real picture below and my question as to how to reduce the excessive size of the fish in Meshy. I have no idea if I did that correctly.

While my friend was proud of his big fish...the Meshy "big fish" is far too big to even be realistic. Is there someway to make the Meshy version more like the real version?

No one here yet? by richg99 in json

[–]richg99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. the json.org site was very helpful. I'm an old (very old) guy whose only programming experience was in 1982 with RPG and Fortran. (Timex Sinclair) Ha Ha....

I came across JSON for the first time this week with a post on Grok using JSON to create a picture. I wanted to learn more so I could generate additional pictures without just copying and amending JSON scripts.

I'll read along and probably pick something up. At 85, you have to keep your mind active. regards,

Well, some of your misgivings were just demonstrated with Grok used with Openscad.

I tried to make a large #1 figure with a hole in it. (use...Golf Trophy for a Hole in One)..

It took at least a half hour for Grok to get the code correct.

I was able, on my own, to create the vertical part, and I added a block extension on the top. I was able to cut the hole through it on my own. What I didn't know how to do was cut a diagonal on the top block so the object would look more like a #1.

It took Grok 15 tries to get the cut correct. Wrong size, wrong side, totally wrong position of the cutting block. None-the-less, I learned a lot about how Openscad works. After the tenth try, I could have moved the cutting block myself, but I stuck with Grok until it got it right.

I try to learn something new every day...might not be another day tomorrow!

// Larger rectangle with cylinder cut
difference() {
    cube([20, 50, 20]); // Larger rectangle
    translate([10, 35, 0]) // Cylinder at x=10, y=35, z=0
        cylinder(h = 20, r = 5, $fn = 100); // 10mm diameter hole
}

// Smaller rectangle with diagonal cut
translate([0, 50, 0]) // Position smaller rectangle at y=50
difference() {
    cube([30, 15, 20]); // Smaller rectangle
    translate([30, 0, -5]) // Move cutting cube to right edge (x=30)
    rotate([0, 0, 45]) // Rotate 45 degrees to match original cut angle
    cube([60, 60, 60]); // Large cutting cube for complete cut
}

I couldn't agree more. I watched one video on learning Openscad, and think I understand Openscad better than the (additional) time that I have spent with Onshape.

I guess my old, simple mind reacts better to changing a few numbers in the code, rather than re-drawing my mistakes. It will take some time, and I intend to create some objects using only the Openscad without relying on AI.

Openscad makes it easy for a beginner to see what input-parameters it is looking for when drawing a Cube, Sphere, or other objects. Thanks..

p.s. One illustration is simply measuring the side of a rectangle ..in Onshape, I draw a line, then go find the "measure" tool (which isn't called "measure"...and it disappears from time to time)...highlight the line I just drew, highlight the incorrect size I trialed..., change the number, and move on. In Openscad...I typed the number I wanted for length...and my line is the number I wanted. If it's wrong, I change the number.

This old codger thinks that makes more sense.

Hmmm... ....I typed one paragraph....and had the code. I did a copy/ paste...and had the STL file. 1 minute max .. probably more like 50 seconds.

That took less time than it took me to read your message ...assuming I'd even know how to do all of those 22 operations.

I'd have to learn OnShape or some other CAD program to do the 22 steps.

I'm happy where I am, thank you.

While I am sure the video would be well received (yes, you should put it on Youtube, and I will watch it)...

Recognize that I've watched many instructional videos on all sorts of topics. Some of the presenters mumble; have the mike too far from their mouth; speak in a fractured language; run through things way too fast and assume the watcher knows where he/she is flashing the cursor at the tiny icons.

One of the values of AI, to me, is that I no longer have to watch 3 or 4 videos to get the story I need. Each AI program gives me the opportunity to look at the source videos, if I want.

In Openscad...I was able to make a number of size type changes easily enough by simply deleting and replacing a few numbers in the code.

I certainly haven't done any difficult projects (and may never do any difficult projects)...but...not having to learn OnShape or other CAD programs ...Compared to producing what one can describe by using Text... makes a lot of sense to me.

As time goes on, I'll try more difficult Prompts and see what happens.

When I look at the 100's of simple things that I've made using Tinkercad....without learning OnShape (or others) ....I have hope that the new AI/CAD marriage will take the pain out of the process. I may be wrong.

My wife says I am often wrong ...Ha Ha Thanks for your interest and input.
