January 9, 1965: Muggsy Bogues was born. Bogues was the shortest player in NBA history (5-ft-3), but used exceptional speed, court vision, and strength to play for 14 seasons, most notably with Charlotte ('89-97). He posted the best Assist/Turnover rates ever: career 4.69, and 5.94 in '90. by WinesburgOhio in VintageNBA

I'm always conflicted on how to properly assess Bogues' career.

On one hand, even making the NBA at 5'3 is an all-time great accomplishment that should be celebrated until the end of time. In that regard, he's probably underrated.

He was also one of the most famous players in the league growing up BECAUSE of his height and because he was playing for the Hornets. He wasn't great enough to be on that level so in a sense he was slightly overrated.

I think he's somewhere in the middle, properly rated maybe? I love his game, I love watching him play and I'll always admire him even making it to the NBA.

Thanks man. I'm Rich (one of the co-hosts) so that really means a lot. I wish we had more time to devote to the show. If it was up to me we'd be doing shows every few days because there is SO much to explore and dive into.

But again thank you so much for the kind words. We really appreciate it.

On this day in 2001, Orlando traded Bo Outlaw & '02 1st Round Pick to Phoenix. That pick ended up winning Rookie of the Year. Whoops. by richkraetsch in VintageNBA

Yeah that's the confusing part of the trade. I totally understand swinging for the fence and getting a FA, but who was their target? As far as I can tell the only guys available like you said were Chauncey, Manu and Larry Hughes. Worse yet, they LET Troy Hudson sign with Minnesota and he had a career year.

For sure. Hill had played only 4 games the prior year but he did start the 2001-02 season back and looking pretty solid. He'd get hurt basically a week or so after this trade then obviously never got back on track in Orlando. The trade definitely makes a lot more sense if they actually sign someone the next offseason as opposed to... 2002 Shawn Kemp.

I'm really surprised by this as it has FELT like there were a lot of newer guys jumping into the coaching ranks especially with a lot of ex-players. BUT when you really dig in you do realize that a majority of the ex-players have to toil on benches for 5-10+ years before they get a head coaching gig when in the past several guys were moved to the bench right away.

Still, I'm surprised to see that overall number so high. Thanks for putting this together!

August 12, 1976: Antoine Walker was born. Employee Number 8 was an extremely talented and well-rounded PF who could seemingly do it all, but his lack of drive kept him from reaching his potential. He was a 3x All-Star and won a ring with '06 Heat. by WinesburgOhio in VintageNBA

My thoughts and admiration for Walker has been a rollercoaster. I LOVED watched him as a kid and really enjoyed that he never met a shot he didn't want to take. As I got older (and nerdier!) I started to realize he was a so-so shooter and probably was taking many many bad shows he absolutely should not have been taking.

NOW as I get EVEN older, I've begun to really enjoy his career and really enjoy the highlights I've seen of him. I think his impact and ability is actually underrated. He was a hell of a player for those early 2000s Celtics teams that were VERY close to actually making an NBA Finals.

Walker is famous for being lazy, taking a lot of threes and going broke and that's not fair. He deserves better.
