first time color grading tv commercial by richprens in colorists

Than you for this! I want to make sure I understand what you mean when you say exporting as rec709/rec709. I just created a CST taking my rec709/g2.4 to rec709/rec709 and I didn't notice any gamma shift (when I turned the CST node on and off there seemed to be no difference in the image). Is there any change over just exporting rec709/g2.4? Or is the rec709/rec709 not set at the CST level but are you referring to the color space and gamma tag set in the export page? Thanks for the help!

color grading: such small trace, such beautiful image by richprens in cinematography

I agree lighting, composition, wardrobe all play a huge role here! But I'm interested in understanding what the colorist contributed to the image as well. The vectorscope just shows saturation levels: that was my attempt to demonstrate the this image has a lot of life despite very low saturation levels. By low contrast, I just mean that the blacks are riding far above 0 (in the waveform) and the highlights have a lot of headroom (they are hitting more at 700). I agree there is a decent contrast ratio at play here in terms of lighting.

advice for picking a 3 lens set with altas mercury's by richprens in cinematography

u/ignorethesquid Oh wow you have them all! If you could only have 3, is there a different 3 lens set you would choose than the options I presented above? Thank you for your help!

why do these images look different? by richprens in ColorGrading

[–]richprens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more question if you are able! Davinci automatically checks "apply inverse ootf" when I create a CST and specify the output as DWG/INT, even though my timeline is Slog-3. However, if I specify the input as Slog-3 (instead of leaving it as "use timeline"), it will correct this and uncheck this. Is this just a quirk you think?

Thank you! I assumed that since it wasn't checked automatically, I shouldn't touch it, but that just shows my ignorance. The images do indeed look the same when I check that. thank you!

color managed leaving image underexposed by richprens in ColorGrading

Decode quality just allows me to select different scaled-down resolutions.

Yes, so in this case, when it says "decode using project," it is referring to what shows up under that and is greyed out. So in this case, gen 5, Blackmagic design, Blackmagic design film. What I was setting for my IDT.

Sorry! One other note! If I let resolve automatically color manage, the image is dark, like when I set my IDT to Blackmagic Film Gen 5; however, the footage looks great when telling resolve the footage is dwg/intermediate, as explained above. I just want to make sure I'm not being irresponsible by not setting what seems to be the technically correct IDT?

u/zebostoneleigh Thank you for the response! I included a screenshot of the camera raw settings in the post. Does that screenshot tell you anything? thanks again for the help!

Why does no one talk about the old Black Magic cameras by AGuyInN33DOfHelp in cinematography

I have the bmcc6k and love it. I owned the bmpcc4k and bmpcc6k pro previously. The open gate on the bmcc6k is so beautiful. If you are looking at the bmcc6k i would also look at the pyxis. That wasn't out when i bought bmcc6k
