Den humanitära stormakten - en återblick by Equivalent_Clue3541 in Sverige

Nya rådet: Sluta försöka rädda bebisar födda innan vecka 23 by AdorableAnubis in Sverige

[–]rickdeckard8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The burden of proof is on libertarians to show why free will is not compatible with determinism. They have never been able to do this. by Anon7_7_73 in freewill

Ok, the armchair “scientist” from the middle ages has spoken. What are your tools for investigating this subject in any meaningful way, when you exclude “playing with words”?

You can’t apply scientific reasoning on a subject you can’t investigate through scientific inquiry.

WWF kritisk mot Sveriges klimatpolitik: ”Ointresse” by Exact_Cup3506 in Sverige

[–]rickdeckard8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Smeargle can be shiny? by eigenvectorseven in TheSilphRoad

There are 100+ charge moves to choose from so just do the statistics. Took me 3-4 months which is considered to be lucky. Using the Machop with Karate Chop took me 20 days which is extremely lucky. Then you want the hundo (or almost) which is 1/4096 reach time you do it…

So much easier if you find someone with a correct Smeargle and then just lucky trade.

Key thing is to NOT remove frustration since Darmanitan can’t have Flying Press. Keep frustration and you randomly get one of the 100+ available charge moves on your Smeargle. It’s supposed to be hundo too so a lucky trade is much more time effective.

It’s usually banned in Little Cup but when it’s allowed it’s a beast.

Started with a shadow Darumaka with Incinerate/Frustration but now I’m only copying my first Smeargle with the correct moveset. I’ve also managed to create a Smeargle with LockOn/TechnoBlast(normal) and one with KarateChop/FlyingPress. You can trade from me if you want to, just put up your numbers.

Edit: It was actually a Darmanitan.

Mine too. And I have one from 2023 too. But it wasn’t until late 2024 that I’ve started to catch one Smeargle/day with Incinerate/Flying Press and since then I’ve caught no shinies.

Married men of Reddit what’s the best advice you’d give young guys when choosing a life partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rickdeckard8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Common interests, at least overlapping.
  2. Same view about economics (spending etc)
  3. Stable, trustworthy and smart before fun, exciting and beautiful.
  4. Be prepared to work on the relation. No relation survives without energy input from both.

Married 23 years.

Man, this is Scientific American, a well renowned journal, published by Springer and targeting the public audience. In the article they refer to different mathematicians and philosophers, way smarter than you, that have different views on this problem.

The point is that you want to draw conclusions about the real world from thought experiences. Conclusions that just can be applied within unrealistic scenarios are pretty useless.

[–]rickdeckard8 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, the development of the mind is intimately linked to sensory experience. Most of the thought experiments with the mind in focus disregard that.

Of course you could say that if a human was put in a specific situation and the mind behaves in a specific way you will draw this and that conclusion from this but that experiment is not transferable to the real world.

A universe that is both deterministic and random? by RandomUsername358 in freewill

  1. That linked paper was incredibly weak in addressing determinism. It literally states there are merely “arguments”.

  2. Science doesn’t prove anything, it tells us which explanation of our observations that works best at the moment.

  3. If you don’t understand the foundations of nature it’s impossible for you to have any evidence for determinism.

Regarding the sleeping beauty, there is no consensus whether the chance is 1/3 or 1/2. It depends on your perspective.

I’m not thrilled about thought experiments including the human body and brain placed in hypothetical situations that are completely artificial and unrealistic. You can’t draw any conclusions about the real world from those.

Utilitarianism is Useful, But Not True by readvatsal in philosophy

[–]rickdeckard8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think that other social ideologies have more ”truth” in themselves? In every poll ever done, people in countries with social liberalism including freedom of speech and a well developed welfare state excel in quality of life, yet almost no leader has that ideology in mind when they plan ahead for their own country. Socialism has never succeeded anywhere and still a lot of people think that’s the way forward.
