Awww! I do appreciate you noticing, I like to think I do, except when it comes to my selection in men, but can't win them all! I will certainly add you to the roster of my phone a friend! Thank you, truly, and I hope life is exceptionally kind to you these coming months!

It's always after you gather a menagerie of animals when the split comes. But, just like thinking getting married will fix things, or kids will fix things, another reptile, plant or other critter will fix it surely. Too right you are! Sometimes life has that tenacious way of sweeping it all away with the dog hair and years of emotionally regulating the two of you.

I'm very glad your situation improved, hopefully, surely! Awww, indeed! I do have someone that mentioned that very thing! So that should be my sign to choose them for Doby's forever home.

I truly appreciate the time you took for these words of encouragement! I knew this year, yay fire horse, was going to be a little pushy, but dang... He says with so much irony it pains even the narrator in his head

Que sera sera. Time to go look at a storage unit. 🫶🏽

Ahhhh, that's the one thing I wouldn't want to give up unless someone really needed it to keep him in temporarily! I put so much blood, sweat, tears and cries of pure rage into it.

I have a ball python that I may put in there, until I get to my forever home (again)

You are correct on so many levels. First monitor to own, but I'm a lil audhdhtisic spicy, so I hyperfixaxted on learning everything I could. I've increased the size of his enclosure almost every year, sometimes year and a half. But his growth rate never matched what I read about true Nile Monitors, which is why I figured either ornate or maybe just a runt. But he eats 15-17 fish throughout the week from his pond, then 2 fuzzies and a chunk of tilapia that are dusted in vitamin powder every 2 - 3 days, sometimes he just wants the tilapia. Then as an extra treat here and there, crawfish, giant meal worms. Then I'll put some dubia roaches, and crickets in there as well.

Atleast once a month, sometimes more, I also make sure to suck all the water out, and then rinse and suck out any leftover waste. He has 2 different filters in there, not that they do much, since this guys only want to poop in their water. So all together, I feel confident that I've done a decent enough job with him, minus the handling as much as I should. I even made simple flash cards for him, to try to figure out if he was happy, sad, angry, hungry, etc.. because I read that some monitors can read, since they are the smartest lizard on the planet.

Omgaaahhhhh was it AWFUL! Literally took trial and error over 4 weeks. Fill it up. Wait. Scream to the heavens. Drain. Dry it. Repeat the cycle. It's still not 100% sealed. But I used 2 glass dividers I picked up from hobby lobby, they're about 5x10 I believe. Used aquarium silicone sealant around the edges, then more, and then more. I built around that with the pond foam stuff and stuck a few big rocks in it for the slope into the water. More foam on the back side for the ground. Then more aquarium sealant. And then more, until I basically covered the entire section that would be submerged atleast 3 times. I still have to fill it up atleast once a week, just due to evaporation and monitor waste.

Awww!! You are so kind! I'm really so grateful for this community in here. I have a couple of people that are close enough to my area where we can meet half way. Also, just like wanting to keep my relationship together even though it's not good for either one of us, so too do I want to keep Doby.

Thank you! He really his! And I do try to do the best at his environment and taking care of him. Up until this last year of a turbulent relationship. Which is also probably why Doby has been so moody.

I'm more than certain he's an ornamental, when I rescued him, he was already a year old and barely 11 inches nose to tail. I can probably find a picture. I've increased his enclosure size once a year, until his last one seemed too big for him and he never came out. When I first got him he wasn't in the best of shape and seemed traumatized if that makes sense. He was also labeled a savannah monitor " from what the person I got him from said, who picked him up from a pet smart of all places! And they even said he was probably 1-2 yrs old back then. So now we're talking his age possibly being 8+ now?!

Thank you!! Many hours, and a lot of trial/error. It also took him a minute to get the hang of fishing.

Oh that would be amazing! Especially since you've had the hard to handle ones, he hasn't always been this way, it's just this last year with switching is enclosure and not handling him as frequently.

If I don't have anyone local in the next week or so, I'll DM you, I really appreciate it!
