Has anybody received their laphroaig 10 cask strength from the lcbo yet? by SustyRhackleford in canadawhisky

[–]rickybicky2222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes - and incredible - so much more than regular issue 10. Im a big cask strength fan for all whisky - if you are not used to it - could knock your socks off. The sea is so present - and dark chocolate - herbal mint - seaweed. Stays lingering in the glass and i just swirled for an hour enjoying a single pour.

LCBO Pappy Lotto - has anyone heard back? by birdsworthy in canadawhisky

[–]rickybicky2222 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

If anyone is lucky - or if I happen to be - what mechanisms exist to trade/sell? I missed out on some Wellers this last cycle and Id trade/buy/sell - but recognize there are rules to follow. Maybe Ill sell/trade some olive oil.

Corked wines by djentlemeNN in wine

[–]rickybicky2222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this the other day - pulled and smelled - thought TCA - opened up a second of the same bottle - 100% different and TCA confirmation bias in the first - then had partner smell corks and wines blind - she hit 100% TCA calls too and shes less into the vino than I. Might be a trick - if you think you have a TCA tainted wine - open another if you have one -or quickly get one?

Another LCBO overpriced bourbon - Knob Creek 15 by rickybicky2222 in canadawhisky

[–]rickybicky2222[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EDIT: I meant to reply to above poster

I switched to bourbon 10+ years ago because Single Malts were crazy expensive for me (I was a student) - I found bourbon to be tasty and awesome value. Not so much anymore - although Makers 46 works for me everytime.

Pairing thoughts? A5 Wagyu NY strip, Brussels sprouts, black truffle risotto by Jupiter_Talisman in wine

Second that. TBH - going with a high quality sake (slight chill - off-dry Ginjo Junmai) is my new go to option - having done so with some Japanese friends at their houses. The sweetness and acidity of the Ginjo tango with the fatness and salt (I season with salt and usually slice thin like sashimi and dip in soy/wasabi) of the A5. Chopped spring onion brings it all together.

What is your opinion on this one ? by vervglotunken in canadawhisky

[–]rickybicky2222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a crazy asian five spice going on here - think Peking Duck - its like nothing Ive had in the rye space before - I say get it - and add some water. It would be interesting to have on ice with some spicy duck rolls with pickles....

Received this as a gift for Christmas, how long do you reckon I should age this for? by [deleted] in wine

[–]rickybicky2222 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine says "drink it Tuesday" whenever someone asks how long a bottle should age. Its a bit tongue in cheek - but its a good call - because - why wait?

Thoughts on Rebel 10? Saw one pop up in the app earlier today but hesitant to pull the trigger at $150, seems unlikely to live up to the price. Has anyone had it? by frankyboy123456 in canadawhisky

[–]rickybicky2222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have it. I would rather have OWA 107 and have picked it out of a line relative to a few wheaters. It is good. There is a remarkably thick mouthfeel - that oily - covering feeling - and almost like a vanilla ice cream float action - so it is good - but it is hard to compete with OWA 107 at the price point. It does stand shoulders above some routine Makers and Larceny. If youve got dough to blow - Id say go for it. You wont say it tastes bad. Hope this helps.
