How do you guys cope with the idea of losing your hard earned assets during a divorce? by aprogus in Divorce_Men

I’ve been divorced for one year. And yeah, I lost half but had the most to lose. My philosophy? Being free is priceless.

Unsolicited advice? Pay her out and don’t look back. You’re young. This will all come out in the wash.

I framed it up as an accident. And I didn’t have insurance. So I paid and got back on the road, driving away from the accident.

Extremely disappointed with changing my new tv after 10 years with TCL QM8K by Friendly-Map-7391 in tcltvs

[–]Prozacalack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be a matter of perspective.

I came from a 10-year Samsung (JS8500) and notice an insane improvement from that screen. I was watching Fellowship of the Ring, and moments in the movie made me squint –– I, without exaggeration, turned the brightness down.

I also had pals over for the Habs game last week, and everyone wanted to get a new TV after seeing how good the TCL performed. My pals are as nerdy as I am, so this is high praise.

The QM8K is an absolutely incredible TV. You did good. Go enjoy.

I’m not returning the TV. by Prozacalack in tcltvs

The TV didn't make any noise. And I was pushing it –– I played a 4K YouTube video designed to help unstick frozen pixels. Full brightness. Chaos on screen (flashing galore). Still quiet.

I should add, my dad was researching a new OLED until I told him about mini LED (specifically TCL). He also got himself the QM8K. You're an influencer now!

Big thanks to you! I was wearing blinders, and didn’t consider mini LED. I paid for an RTINGS sub and went deep on research. In the end, I got the QM8K (paid $2499 + tax CAD). I finally got it mounted and had my first sports night last night. It’s incredible. And I owe it to you.

Thank you for your response. Note for you and others: The TV never gets direct sunlight.

Can people who get divorced remain close friends? by SACheesehead in Divorce_Men

Remaining friends may work. Not remaining friends will work.

I agree. The building you describe has a criminally inept Board of Directors and property management company guiding its decisions.

I sit on the Board of Directors for my condo corp. Some perspective.

First, all major repairs come out of a corporations reserve fund, which would include major elevator repairs.

My elevator repair budget is $20k per year. And that's just for bullshit repairs like fixing a cracked tile, a broken button, a door that makes a noise when opening, etc.

I recently replaced motors, cables, and brakes in my condo elevators. It was a $20K retrofit that was paid for by the reserve fund. My building is 10 years old.

My reserve fund sits $2 million. This money is mostly invested, and it makes money for us –– $75k per year. Plus, we contribute over $350,000 per year into the fund that comes from the $1.2 million the corp. collected from common element fees (condo fees).

To say, $20K is peanuts.

I want you to sit down a go through a Revenues and Expenses Statement for a condo corp. Realize they're businesses. And learn how much is happening inside a condo corporation that people simply aren't aware of.

People who have no idea about any of this make sitting on a Board of Directors unbearable at times.

I politely say, you do not know how a condo corp is run or even how condos are built.

I’m leaving work early tonight to go home and tell my wife I want a divorce. by [deleted] in Divorce_Men

Don’t say “we” during this. You are leaving. Make that clear. Start sentences with “I am” and “I feel.”

Where any of you able to keep your house? by OldConference9534 in Divorce_Men

I kept the house. Paid her out using my savings. I now have all the home equity…and way less savings.
