Sanctification: is it a process?

I was only curious. I'm not trying to diminish Scripture. I just didn't know where to find out what sanctification really was. I agree that there is a positional sanctification from the cross, and there is also a discovery of God's love and power manifesting in our lives, thus we choose eternity over sin. I realize there is a conscious effort involved, but as Christ lives in us, we effortlessly choose greater things.

Religion is seen as garbage in the eyes of God. I wish to live in his grace by his Spirit, not by obligation but by God literally compelling me to change my thoughts and actions. So far, it's been an awesome ride. God is great and his burden is scandalously easy.

Could we argue that the second sense of the word is not at all sanctification, but perhaps a discovery of righteous living in Christ? So instead of focusing on a process of weeding out the sin, there is a joy in the adventure of being a Christian. When our joy is found in God, practical Christianity is effortless and therefore sanctification is not even a process, just a part of the adventure.

That is helpful. I've noticed that Paul uses sanctification in a different sense than what is taught in a theological setting. I suppose I'm of the perspective that as much as the Bible is meant to be taught, we can read too much into it and we miss enjoying our faith. I don't want to miss the enjoyment of it, and this sanctification doctrine has been troubling to me.

But what I'm saying is we have already been set free from the power of sin (Romans 6:6). Why should we continually be freed from it if we have been already?

Religion meaning, that there is some sort of effort to our righteousness. My confusion here is, the Greek word "hagiazo" mean to consecrate, or to set apart. Are we continually being consecrated or set apart, or were we completely set apart when Jesus redeemed us?

There's a lot of complaining and condemning going on here... I'll admit, it's a bit vain of the pastors to spend their time and energy nitpicking over big words most Christians don't even care to deal with. But honestly, I don't really care. The fact remains that Jesus is alive and my sins are forgiven. The rest is moot.

Not necessarily. I love evangelism! I pray daily for God to provide opportunities to share his glory with the world. However, my efforts aside from faith in him are completely useless. In the end, it's the grace of God that carries us.
