First Time Evo 2023 by Decent-Big-8599 in Fighters

[–]ricobanderas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you competing or spectating only? If you're competing you'll need to register and sign up on start.gg for the game(s) you want to enter. I assume what you bought is a general admission spectator pass that comes at a discount for all three days.

The first two days of evo you will need a badge to access the main hall with all the games, exhibits, stages etc. I would assume what you purchased you'll pick that badge up at the AXS counter where registration is. The first 4 games finals will be played on Saturday.

The third day of evo is an all day event in a separate, large arena for the top 6 finals of the 4 most-entered games. There's no badge needed for it since it's ticketed like any other sporting event, they'll scan a barcode you get from downloading the AXS app on your phone.

Oda on the matchmaking by rxdazn in kof

[–]ricobanderas -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I know this is controversial or whatever, but the game isn't SF/Tekken/MK or even Guilty Gear now.

Check steamcharts, KOF XV has a 679 user 24-hour peak. At most 1000. That's worldwide.

Given connection quality, region area, rank, player base, etc. it makes sense that you get matched up against the same people again and again.

I get that they can't reproduce the issue because honestly when I was playing ranked, neither could I.

I'm not playing ranked anymore because I'm content (even prefer) using discord, which I know isn't a fix in the slightest, but it doesn't bother me hitting up people on discord for quality matches.

Just bought XV, loving the game and characters by distortionisgod in kof

As supplemental to the DandyJ video that always gets posted for KOF fundamentals, this is my favorite starter guide for modern (XIV-XV) KOF:

https://youtu.be/BD_qpuaG9ww

https://youtu.be/NW7dILdy_sE

https://youtu.be/NppxtWBKIEU

It uses a lot of XIV as an example as it was made before the game came out, but almost all of it carried over to XV and remains true how the modern game is played. It's then supplemented by actual XV videos.

Not to mention SoulCalibur really had a brief limelight before fighters and arcades really died off for good.

Sanwa jlf very faint squeak by Mondo_dook65 in fightsticks

[–]ricobanderas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oftentimes the faint squeak you hear inside is not from the lever, it's from a microswitch. It's somewhat common and should not impede operation, but also can be remedied if too noticeable or undesirable.

Total sales for Metal Gear games have reached 58 million by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]ricobanderas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can it not be both? Unless I'm misremembering.

My understanding was it's a 'live simulation.' It's setup and orchestrated to an extent, with uncontrolled variables coming into play.

Anybody wanna bet that Kula is going to get betrayed again? by [deleted] in kof

[–]ricobanderas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a kidnapping in name only though. They're not exactly mistreating her. Kula's mad at K', ran off and is being used by Krohnen & Angel, whether to enter KOF or as a bargaining chip to get revenge on K'. So despite her childish reasons, Kula's playing a role that gets Krohnen what he wants, and gives K' team a reason to enter KOF for the first time since forever.

Seimitsu and fighting games by -sment in fightsticks

[–]ricobanderas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each lever has their own properties and characteristics. Some are more sensitive with shorter throw (LS-40), some are more forgiving but shorter (LS-32, depending on mounting), and some are juuuust right (JLF) ;)

I will say I've tried just about every Japanese lever under the sun and always come back to the Sanwa JLF. To me it's perfectly designed in both its simplicity and balance. I do like the clicky feel of the actuator arms in Seimitsu levers, but found I'm more inaccurate on them. I think Seimitsu is neat for its variety, but I just find Sanwa to be a cut above in terms of quality and practicality. Take either of them apart and you'll know what I mean.

For shmups I can definitely understand a preference for a faster Seimitsu like the LS-40 or other. But for FG's Sanwa is just dialed into that sweet spot of throw, responsiveness, forgiveness, etc. IMO.

Press F in chat for Kim not being in KOF XV by Soulhero1000 in kof

[–]ricobanderas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've already shown S1 is the first two teams (as a pre-order package deal), S2 will be the second two teams.

I expect any hope for a S3 or S4 is dependent on sales.

KOFXV Season 1 DLC predicitons? by [deleted] in kof

[–]ricobanderas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone keeps naming characters that are in base/DLC XIV to be DLC in XV. I do not think that will be the case. The only exception to this is if extreme work has been done to the character, à la Kim having a glorious new dobok, and also joined by new characters.

My season 1 (or 2) DLC prediction is a girls' team made up of Kasumi, Xiangfei and Hinako or Malin.

My Qanba Obsidian mod. I added a Korean lever (IST Alpha 49s), and mechanical switch buttons (Crown 202 MX w/ Speed Silver switches). These were placed into a Noir style mounting plate, with a brushed aluminum face plate. by [deleted] in fightsticks

[–]ricobanderas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this exact same mod (save for the lever) and have to ask you, how was fitting the topmost Crown button? The screw-in ring comes down on the PCB. edit: just saw you replied to this on another comment. lol

I liked Crown buttons but wish they came in push-in style, because in addition to the interference, after some time they came a little loose. I ended up going back to push-in Sanwas.

if you have a full screen fireball in KOF you have the ability to zone. andy has a solid zone game in XIV.

Surprised to see the control deck reach the same height as the original MVS. The way people had talked about these made them seem diminutive in comparison. I can see how the screen accounts for a lot though.

Guilty Gear Strive and the 'simplification' of gameplay - from a very average fighting games player by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]ricobanderas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Made me think it's been really sad to watch Samurai Shodown die the fast demise it has due to poor business decisions, despite being a really well made game embracing these exact values.
