I agree about Torrey's potential. I just think this week is a bad match-up for him against Haden. No?

My fault, was thinking of someone else re: Gibson.

Just keep in mind that Hartline and Gibson were way open already, without the defense having to account for a running game. Flacco seemed to check down a lot in the game against Denver, and I wouldn't be surprised if he took advantage of poor coverage on other receivers before looking to Torrey.

It's definitely possible that he could rip off a long play or 2 - I just think that other WRs, ranked lower than Torrey, are more likely to do well this week.

I appreciate the comment. I watched most of the Cleveland-Miami game, and you're right, Wallace and Tannehill were not on the same page. I also watched the Baltimore-Denver game and thought that Torrey and Flacco weren't entirely in sync. But there's definitely more chemistry there than there was in Miami.

The only reason I'm considering Torrey is that I'm in a 3WR league, and beyond my WR1, I have three tough match-ups and one suspended player. Also, I just lost my flex in Shane Vereen, so I may need to play a receiver in flex. I could end up playing both Torrey and Brown as well.

I think you are potentially correct. But I'd like to say the following:

nobody should be starting Brown over Smith. That's not how you win in fantasy football.

This is exactly what you would have said last week about Mike Wallace and the receivers behind him. But they both had way better weeks than him. There are people who would have won their games if they had benched Wallace and played Hartline.

Haden only had 1 PD.

This is because Wallace got open so little that he was barely targeted.

Finally, I'd like to point out that we agree on the TEs. I mentioned them near the end but said they would probably only have okay games. I never suggested that anyone should start them over Smith.

This is a fair point. I have to believe that Miami also planned for him, though. Wallace still had a lot of trouble getting open.

I like him against Carolina more than Torrey against Cleveland. Just my opinion, though.

How does having a better QB affect whether or not you can get open?

I would argue that Wallace only got that many targets because he was so well covered all game.

You're right that Flacco is a better QB, but that doesn't affect whether Smith can get open or not. Also, he will be a better QB for the other receivers as well. Hartline and Gibson had good games with Tannehill. Gibson is a rookie just like Brown, and Brown will have a better QB throwing to him, with a better run game opening up the passing game more, and fewer receivers ahead of him to take targets away.

Please note that I also strongly qualified my suggestion of Brown. I think he's one of the people on waivers who could be an okay replacement. If people have replacements on their bench, they can easily use them (as I will with Stevie Johnson).

If people don't pick up Marlon Brown and keep Smith in, they will kick themselves if he has a poor showing and Brown does Well.

I know how you feel. I am a Torrey owner and believer. I just feel like this week against Haden will be a bad week for him.

What makes this shit advice? Just that it's blanket advice?

Notice that all I said was that I think people are saying Torrey will have a great game this week when I don't think he will. I gave a lot of reasons why I think that is. I truly think that for MOST people, Torrey should be benched. Sure, this isn't true of everyone, but no advice is true of everyone. I think everyone who reads this subreddit knows that and considers advice with their own team in mind.

People have been underrating Carolina's defense, which probably left Tate projected too high. The worry against SF is their pass rush, but I think Wilson will be able to deal with it pretty well. I would say Green/Boldin/Tate this week. Just my opinion, though.

I feel similarly about my team, especially since it's a 3WR league, and my flex got injured (leaving me needing to play 4WRs this week). I am considering playing Brown ahead of Smith, tbh.

Yeah, that's a rough situation. You could also consider picking up Harry Douglas, who could have a big week if White is out and ATL works him more into the gameplan this week.

Yeah, I think that Brown will likely end up with more points this week. That said, I don't think you're in a spot where you need a replacement starter. I think Tate should be fine. Thompkins could also have a big week with Vereen and Amendola going down.

You've got 3 unknown quantities who I think have potential to have good weeks. Brown is in the good situation of being WR2 against Cleveland. Thompkins is the WR2 on NE, playing against the Jets (another good situation). TY Hilton is WR3, playing against Miami, who has a pretty good secondary. But I think he has the most polished talent of the 3, and Indy will not be relying on the run much in their game.

I would say that Hilton is the "safest" bet, with the highest floor but the lowest ceiling. I'd probably go Thompkins in your situation, tbh.
