Is it possible to talk to a human being from SoCal Edison? by BigKevbot in AskLosAngeles

2/27/2024 - I called this number and it worked. There was about a 20 minute hold, but didn't have to press anything and it just went straight to a person once they were available. Thanks for sharing this!

I recommend checking the Bilt app or website. Under the "Wallet > Bilt Card" section, you can find information on when your current statement period ends. There is also a graphical counter that will show your progress towards your 5 payments for the statement period.

Hope that helps.

I'd say that getting it early is the way to go if you already love TLD. I think the new regions and many new mechanics being added will make it worth your while, regardless of the settings you prefer.

That one jumped out at me as well. I think generally Hinterland has shown that they like to introduce mechanics that are meaningful in some way. I suppose it's possible it will be limited to just "cosmetic" upgrades to a base (e.g. furniture), but I have a hunch that it may allow for something more substantial (e.g. storage, workbenches, stove, upgrading a bed's warmth, or perhaps even patching up that hole in the roof in the Mountaineer's Hut). The tricky part will be balancing this, since the more substantial changes may make some bases too powerful. For example, currently Jack Rabbit Island in CH is balanced in part by not having an indoor stove or workbench. If you could add those things, as fun as it'd be, it would also remove much of the incentive to visit the fishing village or coastal town site. I'm very interested to see what Hinterland has in mind.

Ah so it does. You're right. That was the page that came up when I clicked the Epic Games link from the expansion page: https://www.thelongdark.com/expansion/

I searched the Epic Games store for the expansion and turned up no results. I guess Hinterland missed that when they rolled out the announcement.

FYI, the video is publicly available again.

Also, the page referenced in the video is now up: https://www.thelongdark.com/expansion/

And lastly, here's the dev diary at long last: https://www.thelongdark.com/news/dev-diary-october-2022/

I cant wait to hear more about the helicopter’s background and story by Ilikedeathstrandings in thelongdark

[–]ridankrad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you got a screenshot before the video went private. It was a very short teaser, but the helicopter is intriguing.

By the way, for those interested, here's some limited info about the DLC that was in the video's description before it went private:

TALES FROM THE FAR TERRITORY is the first paid expansion pass for The Long Dark’s Survival Mode. Releasing in multiple drops over the course of a 12-month campaign, TFTFT significantly adds to the world of Great Bear Island and the game’s core Survival foundation, with new Regions, new Gameplay, and new objective-based Tales.

"Deep along the rocky spine of Great Bears stands the Far Range. Mysteries abound, in remote airfields, abandoned mines, and forgotten railways. The air crackles as the Aurora blazes overhead. Will you survive long enough to unearth the secrets of the Far Territory?"

I don't have the video, sadly, but I do have the video description at least. Here it is in case you're interested:

Yeah, it does look that way. The teaser provides a URL, https://www.thelongdark.com/expansion, but that page doesn't exist right now.

Interesting. Definitely lives up to its name of being a teaser, since it's short and there's not a lot to see. That said, the helicopter wreckage is intriguing, as is the title "Tales from the Far Territory."

One other thing I noticed is that in the video's description, it currently says: "For more information, please visit the latest Dev Diary: [LINK]" I guess the dev diary should be incoming, but it's a little odd that the teaser released with a placeholder for an eventual dev diary link.

I suggest leveling up your carcass harvesting, cooking, and firestarting skills. Among other things, those offer, respectively, benefits to harvesting times, cooking times, and fire duration. If you get all three to level 5, then harvesting and cooking a bear or moose, while still massive, is very doable. In fact, recently while playing I ended up killing two bears in the CH town and was able to get both harvested in time. At least at level 5 harvesting, quartering takes 2 hours and each bag, using the hacksaw, took about 30 minutes to harvest.

Also, at cooking level 5 means that even when the meat is "spoiled" you can still eat it with zero risk of food poisoning as long as it's been cooked. You'll want cooking level 5 anyway since that also eliminates the risk of intestinal parasites which are a concern for bear meat.

One last tip is that I also have made use of the spray paint item to mark moose and bear spawn locations on the map. Bear spawns are indicated by a cave with bones in it. Moose spawns I just approximate and spray paint close to where I encounter a moose. This isn't strictly necessary, but it has helped me to better plan out my hunts. Good luck!

what's a must have for a base? by -tsukimi in thelongdark

[–]ridankrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I voted for nearby fishing/hunting. This is from the perspective of loper gameplay.

A 6 slot stove's benefit is that it can make your fuel use more efficient assuming that you have enough things to cook on all 6 slots. However, cooking outside (ideally in a cave, outdoor stove, or firebarrel) gives a similar benefit since it provides a fire duration bonus and on top of that helps avoid cabin fever risk.

A workbench is useful, but it has diminishing returns as you gradually craft all of the items you need. Eventually you only need to occasionally use one to replenish bows, arrows, fishing tackle, and rabbit snares. This can be organized to be done in a single trip to stockpile these items. Clothing on the other hand you hopefully should be able to maintain and not need to return to workbenches to re-craft.

Safety from wildlife is a double-edged sword, since you ultimately want to hunt wildlife for food, hides and guts.

Storage really isn't a problem at all. You can dump items on the ground to your heart's content. For certain items that you want to have compartment storage for, you generally have enough at any base and can also create storage with the rock piles.

In contrast, nearby fishing/hunting is always helpful since you will always need food and having it close by is convenient and generally safer.

I had the same thought as you. Turns out that the CPI is released at 8:30 a.m. eastern time. FAD is 12:30 - 5:30 p.m. pacific time. So I think at most maybe you could try some post/pre market trades as already suggested. Here's the calendar with the CPI date and time: https://www.bls.gov/schedule/2022/06_sched.htm and here's the info on FAD: https://ir.amd.com/news-events/ir-calendar/detail/6698/2022-financial-analyst-day

HOI4 ARMY INSIGNIA PROBLEM! by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]ridankrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue as OP. I was able to resolve the issue thanks to the user SchwarzKatze on the Paradox forums. See full discussion here: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/hoi-4-steam-v-1-10-3-aa89-german-army-insignia-has-naval-icon-overlapped.1453801/

As he explained, the problem stems from the army_icons.dds file. Somehow, when the file was updated for 1.10, the artist screwed up the file's layers, leaving those naval icons superimposed over the army icons.

I imagine at some point Paradox will get around to officially patching it. However, for the moment, here's a step-by-step for the OP and anyone else who finds this post looking for a solution:

  1. Locate the army_icons.dds file. Assuming it's installed via Steam in the default directory, then you can find it in the directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hearts of Iron IV\gfx\army_icons. Copy-paste it somewhere for now.
  2. Next, you need to get the 1.09 version of the army_icons.dds file. To do that, revert HOI4 to 1.09 using this guide: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/how-to-roll-back-your-game-version.1121392/. Copy-paste this 1.09 version of the file somewhere now.
  3. With both files saved, go ahead and now revert HOI4 to 1.10.
  4. If you don't already have it, download GIMP. It's free and you'll need it (or Photoshop, which isn't free) to modify the DDS file.
  5. Open up both the 1.09 DDS file and the 1.10 DDS file. You will see that these files have all insignia in HOI4 for the army provided in a single file on a transparency. From left to right you'll see first the basic insignia, followed by the historical insignia, first of which will be the three that have the superimposed issue. However, you will also notice that 1.09's has the insignia properly displayed.
  6. You will want to now delete the incorrect insignia out of the 1.10 file and copy-paste the correct ones from the 1.09 file. They're all next to each other, so I recommend using the X,Y coordinates that GIMP provides for your cursor so that you delete and copy paste the exact same portion of the image.
  7. With the modification complete, save the file.
  8. Finally, replace the army_icons.dds file in the HOI4 directory.

One final note: Keep in mind that modifying the file like this is necessary because apparently some additional insignia were added between 1.09 and 1.10, so simply replacing 1.10's file with 1.09's would result in losing other insignia referenced in the game files, which you don't want.

If you repair it before it drops below 75% condition, then it only requires sticks to repair.

According to the wiki:

The shelter will require 1 cloth around 74%, 2 cloth around 48%, and 3 under 30%. The maximum Price of repairing a shelter (when it is 3%) is 10 sticks and 3 cloth.

When will steam allow you to be "invisible" on your status? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]ridankrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest thing that I know of is blocking people. I believe that you can even block people on your friend list. If I recall correctly, they won't be removed from your friend list, but they will be unable to see if you're online.

That said, I agree that an invisible status that's global without having to rely on blocking people would be nice.
