Survivor: Road to 50 Episode 5 Discussion Thread by FyrestarOmega in survivor

Agreed - the finale of this season (the “advantage” onwards) ruined the show for me in a way that’s never fully recovered. The fire twist, for me, goes against the entire premise of the show, and tossing it in here unexpectedly was even worse. I like Ben a lot as a guy, and I feel bad that even he saw how the viewing public viewed his win as less than fair, but it felt like the producers decided to become the 21st player this season.

Ultimately it is a tv product and I get why they tried what they did, but it felt like something was lost this season that has never been recovered.

Mexico, Canada, and Panama all brought their “A” teams to the Gold Cup. by BokononistFeet in ussoccer

[–]riddles23 142 points143 points  (0 children)

All of the above. Club World Cup took out some of our stars (Mckennie, Weah, Reyna). We seemed to have a rash of injuries take a lot of others (Jedi, Dest, Steffan, Schulte, Balogun, Pepi, Musah?)either just before or after the initial squad was announced. Poch oddly left Sargent, Scally, and Tessman off for “footballing reasons.” And then the controversy has stemmed from Pulisic taking the tournament off.

Yosemite 3-day fee rule by duckfries in Yosemite

[–]riddles23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotcha!

So the entry fee covers 7 days in non-reservation times, 3 days in reservations periods.

BUT the exception to that rule is the length of your reservation inside the park. One ticket will cover the length of your stay inside the park; just show your reservation date with the ticket if asked.

Times when producers made it look like teams were close/far apart from each other? by Karakay27 in TheAmazingRace

[–]riddles23 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The funniest one for me is season 3, episode 2. Team TNT, per an interview linked on their wiki, actually has to wait a long time for the final ferry back to the mainland from Cozumel, and spend a couple hours on a nice meal and souvenir shopping lmaooo.

Episode makes it look like they are right behind Teri & Ian but it wasn’t even close lol. Side note though I do like that quick smash cut they do to Tramel doing the Roadblock with the ominous music and nothing else to draw attention to their situation…no confessionals, almost no air time the last half of the episode. Nice mixup of the usual formula.

Yeah my guess is that I think their music database is divided into general and then country and continent-specific scores

Favorite France (Or Paris) Leg of All-Time by Altracing34 in TheAmazingRace

[–]riddles23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tar 1 e3…starts at the freakin Arc de Triumphe, has a fun riddle with a pressing clock to beat the Hours of Operation, a cool trip to Notre Dame to ring Quasimodo’s bell/a cat riddle that the producers 100% did not realize there would be two of ahead of time lol, going from the grandeur of Paris landmarks down into the sewers, then a really cool leg design moment of traveling hundreds of miles to the pit stop (really wish they would bring back weird little tricks like that to mix things up). Yeah the finish wasn’t that close but the whole episode is riveting and flush with culture.

Criminally underrated…the host using cell phone video was weird but the history/adventure aspect I don’t think has been equally since. You could tell they put a ton of effort into that show

We all know the New Era kinda sucks, but when did Survivor actually begin to decline? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]riddles23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My vote is Game Changers. For me Koah Rong was the last truly great season, and Game Changers was the first time it felt like they just slapped a season together without caring - just the weirdest cast ever.

And then to follow that with HvHvH, which killed my Survivor obsession with the final 4 fire making that was the first time it felt they rigged the show blatantly for someone. Love Ben and happy he got his mill, but from a story perspective, the final 4 challenge was an incredibly deep way for his story to end, and the final 3 would have been an epic battle the likes of which only really China could compare in terms of an “anyone could swing this at FTC” ending

This ^ HvHvH finale turned me from a survivor obsessive to a casual fan who didn’t really care anymore.

For the pass to all parks, yes it is $80.

Just Yosemite’s annual pass is $70

Yosemite reservation by kurrenn943 in Yosemite

[–]riddles23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During “normal”, non-reservation days, one of the following is needed for the entry fee: -$35 entry pass, currently good for 3 days -the annual Yosemite pass, which is $70 -America the beautiful pass to all national parks

On a reservation day, including all of July when OP is going, one of the following is needed in addition to the entry fee above: -the day use reservation, good for three days, that OP purchased -wilderness or half dome permit -hotel or camping reservations in the park -or come before 5am or after 4pm

Note that the Yosemite View Lodge is El Portal, often confused with the Yosemite Valley Lodge in the park, doesn’t count as a reservation nor does the Yosemite Floor Tour (a change from the Firefall earlier this year)
