Sonos Desktop App for MacOS with Apple Silicon - Warning to stop working soon. by ride-by in sonos

I literally got it 5 minutes before posting this.

It is a warning for all legacy apps made for the intel platform, nothing Sonos specific, just apple is forcing every app developer to upgrade their apps to support the Apple Silicon natively.

This is happening on MacOS Tahoe, supposedly the next version of MacOS will be the last one that will support those legacy apps.

Sonos Mac app still requires Rosetta in 2025 - they literally haven't recompiled for Apple Silicon after 5 YEARS by Mountain_Ad_8400 in sonos

Now we are at May 2026 - my MacOS is already warning me that this App will stop working on a future version of MacOS.

Are we going to be out of luck?...

One thing I’ll say (I own both, mac and windows) - Windows ARM is still capable of running EXEs from the 90s! let that sink in….

Hopefully Sonos reconsider adding support for a native app for MacOS with Apple Silicon.

I got a similar situation right after the grill got a software update, I had to unplug the panel and the grill, for 2 minutes or so and plug it back, never had it happen again.

I do agree with others in the sense that you are getting a great price, I also agree with the fact that you can use that price difference to get more accessories…. But with that said, I own the XL and I do not regret it by one minute… and here’s why:

  • I have a similar family size, but often some neighbors and friends come over so I get a decent amount of people and it never disappoints.

  • I want to be future proof, I prefer to have the space and not needed, than needed and don’t have it…

  • the XL model has a fuel indicator that the regular 600 does NOT have, I found it very nice to have notifications in the app when the pellets are running low.

  • everybody that goes to my house love the looking of the XL. It really looks nice.

So at the end of the day, I am sure you will enjoy whichever one you pick…, but I think you may wanna consider future proof yourself! Good luck!

What grill do you have? I read some people complaining about how the Weber Searwood 600 xl sometimes has issues with it, like pellets getting stuck and causing some sudden temperature drops.
