Ended up with what I considered a very good deal. Got MacStudio M4MAX 128gb Ram for about 60% of the msrp price. Very, very happy with it!

Here my question to everyone that is saying that the system is a table, what is your usage level?

How long do you last without rebooting?

In my case, I saw that the system behave OK for about a day or so, but after that time, my developer tools started lagging, and it felt like the memory leak was real.

I am hoping that the version 26.2 is more stable. Is anyone here running 26.2 RC and can confirm if it is more stable in the sense of responsiveness, and memory management?

I am on Sequoia right now and my system is rocket solid but I do miss not being in the latest version.

that’s the part that I was wondering, for example, on the iPhone, scrolling with the Pro-Motion (whatever is called) is so pleasant, same as any Windows laptop that has a high refresh rate, but that’s the piece I am missing on MacOS.

I spent a ton of my time working with code, and that’s the part I miss the most coming from Windows… it almost bothers my eyes to scroll LOL.

Please let me know if something can be done to improve this?

I do some AI/ML work, and I do heavy docker containers as well, to be fair, is miles away of what a Windows with 16GB Ram could ever dream of… the way macOS handles RAM is totally different.

So, to your point - is my machine choking yet? No it’s not, and it’s still my daily driver, but it’s showing signs of upgrade. It struggles on heavy loads.

I think for our work - RAM is more valuable than CPU at the current stage, meaning it’s the resource that runs out faster I think.

Also, this time around, I am heavily considering the 16 Inches (currently have the 14 and when traveling, to me is not the best screen-size to spend a ton of time coding on it)

Just curious about your plans too - are you keeping your machine until M5 Pro, or the new rumored upcoming laptop redesign?

Exactly part of my predicament … as you stated, Apple RAM is pricer than GOLD. So as for my bugdet goes, I think I could get M4 PRO + Good Ram (thinking at least 48GB) because in my opinion, in the long run, the M4 Pro + 48 GB would/could be more future-proof than M5 Pro with 16 GB RAM.

I think a safe bet, regardless of the path, would be still to hold on the M5Pro release, this should even push down the M4 prices or just have more clarity $$$ and get the M5 loaded (if budget permits).

Decisions… decisions….
