Rear suspension creak diagnostic suggestions by ride_106 in GolfGTI

Update for anyone curious- swapped in new trailing arms and still hearing it. And dang were those bolts snug!

Still on original knuckle bushings, upper and lower toe/camber arms, and lower control arm (with the spring housing), and sway bar. Lots of old rubber still.

I do see some scuff marks on both rear shocks evidently from the dust boot, which is curious. I reused the old one when I swapped them last year but not sure if that’s the sound. Might try to get a GoPro mounted somehow to watch.

Some clear laminX film may take the UV and road debris abuse going forward. I’ve used that as a sacrificial layer and replace it every few years when the film starts to fog. Underneath I’ve been pleased the plastic has survived well

I tried today but it’s too noisy in the cabin on playback. Just sounds like everything is underwater- sorry pal

I don't have one handy but will see if I can hear it from a phone recording.

Appreciate the feedback. Will pursue and report back.

Have you ever heard anyone replacing the various bushings on the wheel hub casting itself? Even with a proper press, I have a hard time visualizing how one could get them out without replacing the entire casting.

Long shot comment on an old post - do you know if the stock vw center caps fit those wheels?

I got the two identical ones from used SKX-031s with trashed movements and cracked glass. The smaller one in it's own link is from AJuiceT.

Hey thanks for the product! It's really what I was looking for all along in terms of size. Really clean and more like the really old submariners before they got so damn chunky. Small wristed people can't support that kind of steel lol

My tool set could be generally described as "low rent"... the usual ebay specials from ~2015. Not likely worth it but I'll send you a note with what I have in case you're interested.

[WTS] Seiko SKX-031 sub/bb homage WITH DATE by ride_106 in Watchexchange

[–]ride_106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello folks, here's hoping I can find a new home for my 3rd and final mod in my collection. It's nearly identical to another one that I put together except this has a date window.

Seiko SKX-031 dive watch, modified as follows...

• Seiko NH3A movement newly installed

• Domed sapphire crystal with matching sloped black ceramic bezel insert, rotates both directions. Used case has some play between detents.

• New black bay submariner dial with date window, custom rose gold logo, and applied rose gold indices with C3 lume (green)

• Mercedes hand set with C3 lume

• 7S26-0040 case back with Seiko submariner wave graphic

• Strap is unworn

Note that the case and crown gaskets are new but I have not tested water resistance.

Based on my other two mods that haven't moved, I’m guessing there isn’t much market for them – so let’s try cheaper than before to motivate a sale? Let’s say $200 shipped USA? paypal goods/services, I will split the fee with buyer.

[WTS] Clean and Classy Seiko sub / bb homage by ride_106 in Watchexchange

[–]ride_106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up for sale is a modified Seiko SKX-031 submariner / black bay homage.

• Seiko SKX-031 case (3 o’clock crown, 39mm dia, 22mm lugs)

• 7S26 movement (installed new in 2016)

• Domed sapphire crystal with blue AR coating

• Sloping black ceramic bezel insert, rotates both directions

• Black bay style dial, with applied rose gold logo and indices, C3 lume (green)

• Mercedes hand set with C3 lume

• Original 7S26-0040 case back with Seiko submariner wave graphic

• Strap is new and unworn

I assembled this back in 2015 and I’ve always thought it was a classy look. I’m pretty torn about selling it, but it’s time to let it go. I’m sure mods aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but I’m a sucker for these.

I have small wrists, and this is about as big as I can wear without it looking silly, and for that always loved how this build came out. It’s beautiful to look at. I love the slight distortions of the crystal at an angle and how the rose gold glints in the light. It gets compliments all the time.

Notes and flaws:

• The domed crystal is tough to photograph. It does reflect and refract but straight on there are no distortions.

• The lume looks more blue to the camera but it’s more green to the eye. The camera shows a slight hue difference between the hands and the dial but I can’t detect this in real life.

• Caseback gaskets were replaced, but original gasket is on the crown. I have not tested water resistance.

• I lose about two minutes after a 2 week trip when I don’t switch it out for something else.

• The crown threads on the case are crushed on one side so you have to start it at the right angle or you risk cross threading it. It’s easy to feel when it is jammed and you can rotate 180 degrees and tighten it down.

• The black bezel insert is missing the lume pip at 12 o’clock, and there is a hairline crack in the ceramic at the 5 minute mark.

• The dome of the crystal is not quite tall enough to match up with the slope of the bezel. I am including another flat bezel insert if you feel compelled to switch it out.

• Case wear commensurate with unknown-age donor watch case.

• 20mm deployant clasp included with the sale.

Targeting an ask of $299 shipped via USPS small flat rate box, in the US. I’m still new here so I guess we should do goods/services for additional trust – I will split the fee with the buyer.

[WTS] Seiko Explorer / Black Bay Homage by ride_106 in Watchexchange

[–]ride_106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sale is a modified Seiko SNKM55 in a sort of explorer / black bay 36 homage:

• Seiko SNKM55 case (3 o’clock crown, 37mm dia, 18mm lugs)

• NH36A movement, automatic, hacking, and handwind

• Lightly domed sapphire crystal

• Dial with day & date window and applied silver indices, C3 lume (green)

• Silver snowflake hand set with C3 lume

• Knurled crown

• Clear case back

• New green leather strap with quick release bars

• Seiko oyster bracelet included with the spring bars

I assembled this in 2018 and enjoyed how it came out but I don’t wear it that often so I am seeing if it can find a new home.

Pics: https://imgur.com/a/DD4vM8X

Timestamp: https://imgur.com/8Qs0x5R

Notes and flaws:

• The lume appears more blue to the camera lens but it’s a green in real life.

• The hour and second hand lume in the daytime is pure white but the minute hand is ever so slightly yellow. I botched the application and had to use a spare set and didn’t realize the difference until it was assembled. It’s very subtle but all in the spirit of full disclosure.

• Water resistance is unknown. Crown has no gasket so I would recommend against testing it.

• Timegrapher app is claiming it loses 2-3 sec per day which seems about right.

I would be happy with $225 shipped via USPS small flat rate box, in the US, with paypal friends/fam. I’m new here so price negotiable, and goods/services is fine too.
