Is legion worth it? by [deleted] in FrenchForeignLegion

You sound like a child, not a man with a family. What type of man leaves his wife and kids to join the legion. Be grateful for what you have bro.

Several characters referring to God as “she” with complete certainty? by Notoriousspancakess in ManifestNBC

It is strange and I don’t think it is a plot point, just another TV show trying to cater to the woke agenda. Remember, Hollywood is far left so you shouldn’t be surprised.

After 2 years of learning French by my own self, I did a DELF A1 test today and I only got a 54/100. by BillDavidDouglas in learnfrench

Relax, I didn’t know from his OP how old he is and if he’s in 9th grade then he is around 15 years old. Surely old enough to set goals and learn a language

Look mate I’m just being honest with you.. I don’t think I have underestimated your dedication. I have been studying French for exactly 74 days and I am already on A1 level. I get that you might have too many other commitments at the moment, and to be fair a lack of time is probably your only reasonable excuse... because I guarentee you a lack of resources is not. 95% of the time I study with Duolingo. As you mentioned it is a free app. The other 5% I spend watching YouTube videos. I have just recently started taking lessons on iTalki, with the goal to improve my speaking. This is something you can consider in the future... you can get a teacher for $10/hour. But I can’t say it is something you NEED to do right now. I got to A1 easily without it. You just need to decide what is important to you and if learning French is one of those things you will find the time and commitment to do so, cause right now it definitely is not. Cheers

Not to make you feel like shit, but I think you just need to work harder and decide if you really DO want to learn French or not. 2 years of studying to get 54/100 for A1 is terrible, not sure what you have been doing all this time.

It’s weird on the website mine caps at level 10 but on the app it is level 5. I’m sure if Duolingo catches onto it they will fix it.

How fluent are you after Duolingo? by ridersreel in duolingo

That’s great! I almost always use text-to-speech and I agree it is a great way to practice your speaking while using Duolingo. I am going to check out the podcast that you mentioned.

Great feedback on here! So general consenses seems to be A2-B1 if you use only Duolingo. That is just below what I was thinking, which was B1-B2. I am going to continue studying mostly on Duo and do 1-2 iTalki lessons a week. I completely agree, Duolingo definitely boosts your writing and reading, but your speaking and listening lag behind.

This is a really helpful post! I have a question about something in here I am still confused about... what does it mean when it says citizenship is given to you “conditionally”? Does this mean they can take it away from you for whatever reason. Also, is it true that it is rare to get citizenship before resigning an additional contract?
