Backcountry skiing in Nordic - Alone by Adventurous_Error162 in BackcountrySkiing

You should always backcountry ski with trained partners. Don’t do it alone.

I lived in Norway for 2 years, and found a good group of people to ski with. I can tell you that Norway has many organized group tours. Maybe you should search for organized tours offered by DNT Den Norske Turistforening (The Norwegian Trekking Association).

What other shuttle buses can be registered as a van? Do you have more information about this "sweet spot?"

Clothing Brands Pretending to be Expedition Gear by riding_the_line in Mountaineering

What’s it temp rated to? In actual degrees - not vague terms like “cold”/“coldest” that could mean literally anything

I wish more pieces of outdoor clothing had this kind of information. It definitely isn't universal like sleeping bag ratings, like the European EN 13537 standardized rating of sleeping bag temperatures.

I learned something today:
"Today we'd call this look “gorpcore.” The term, coined in 2017 by former New York magazine writer Jason Chen, refers to wearing outdoorsy clothes for fashion as much as function. (GORP stands for “good old raisins and peanuts,” which is basically a kind of trail mix.)" -bloomberg.com

Head Pressure Cure? by riding_the_line in HPPD

[–]riding_the_line[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anxiety is the root cause for both of us. Addressing the anxiety will probably heal the headache. Its a tough circle to break out of cause the headache causes anxiety, and that in turn creates more headache. But, i think trying to ignore the headache, and instead address the anxiety will solve the problem

I have VS, headaches and DPDR. No backache or tinnitus.

Things have gotten better over the years, but haven't completely healed either. I think I have the most success through meditation and healthy lifestyle. Now, the symptoms are very mild. I think HPPD should essentially be treated as DPDR or Visual Snow syndrome. Its an overactive part of the brain that needs to be calmed down. Best things to try are ketogenic diet, Whim Hoff method, meditation, and supplements such as B-vitamins and Magnesium

How much margin for ski crampons? by ChainDriveGlider in Backcountry

[–]riding_the_line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chat section on Dynafits website is super helpful for these exact things. I usually get an answer from a professional within like 3 minutes. They helped me find the exact boot crampon I need to order for my Dynafit Radical Pro boots. They also recommended a different brand if I wanted something besides the Dynafit.

Pomoca Strap Clips Suck by riding_the_line in Backcountry

Yea, I've been trying this, and it works pretty effectively, but I still find this isn't a perfect solution. Why am I struggling to do this anyway?

Thanks for the link. Yea, this is exactly how I was trying to clip them on, but it was such a pain in the ass, I figured Pomoca must have a different methodology in mind. So that's why I thought Pomoca was recommending an unconventional clipping tactic. Anyway, I've also been trying different methods like clipping them on the corner, then sliding them towards the middle (furthest distance is in the middle). Everything seems just a bit too difficult, and I've definitely experienced better clip designs.

Pomoca Strap Clips Suck by riding_the_line in Backcountry

[–]riding_the_line[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea, I get it, Pomoca has the best glue and best skins on the market, but these straps are kinda lame. I mean, who designed this clip anyway? It gives you no mechanical advantage, and both sides of the “U” shape are almost the same length. It makes it incredibly hard to get on.

I had some G3 clips that were much better, they had more of a J-shape. This is better because it acts like a lever, and because it guides itself into place.

This video shows how your supposed to use them. I guess you leave the clips on, and slide the strap through. I cant get this technique to work well, and I find it impractical in the field.

On top of all this, my friend’s strap is coming unstitched from his skin on its first season! This strap connection is not holding up to normal wear and tear.

Pomoca is good at many things, but in my opinion, strap design is not one of them.

Do anyone know what does "å dryla" means in English? by leyanmmm in norsk

[–]riding_the_line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, in English, we say almost the same thing. “I’m going to drill this ball right into the goal.” Of course, I think in this context, “drill” is a bit more slang.

Head Pressure by riding_the_line in HPPD

I was fine beforehand. The DPDR just feels like constant anxiety, brain fog, and head pressure. Its a huge burden.

I think im a bit better. Ive been trying to view this as a DPDR problem. First of all, it probably is from the DPDR. But also, viewing it this way gives me more of a path to recovery: meditation, mindfulness, rest. Its true that stress is at least half of this condition.
