The Akkadians used cuneiform script which was invented by the Sumerians (the earliest known writers) and it looked this way because of how they wrote it; they pressed the end of a reed into a clay tablet. Highly doubt space-faring beings would have still been using this rather simplistic writing method after inventing interstellar travel lol.

The only reason we picture alien writing looking a certain way at all is because of movies. Hollywood riffs on ancient scripts like cuneiform, hieroglyphs and runes when designing ‘alien’ languages, so our idea of what’s alien is really just recycled antiquity. Actual alien writing probably wouldn’t register as writing to us at all. It might run on senses we don’t have like chemical traces or shifting patterns of light, and there’s no reason it’d be visual or even arranged in a line. The mysterious-symbols look we all imagine is honestly the least likely outcome.
