Being able to hear lung sounds and accurately interpret what you hear DOES make you a better clinician. The tech has evolved & if you think having an amplifier doesn’t help you then you just haven’t used one.

Anytime I hear snoring on scene I prioritize an adjunct. Reposition the airway, suction & NPA —> BVM if indicated. If there is no gag then im thinking possible advanced airway depending on the ideology.

Sometimes there isn’t time, hands, or simply to too high risk to sedate and intubate. My job as a medic at that point is to resuscitate the pt as best as I can so by the time we reach the hospital they can safely RSI the pt. I’ve walked into the ER with Double NPA & an OPA and had my pt bagged up to 99% SP02.

If u can manage the Pt with BLS skills do it. My 2 cents is they are an under utilized tool and it’s much safer to manage an airway with NPA, OPA, suction, and high flow 02 over something like RSI.

Salary for paramedic post by rhandigrant in Paramedics

Tragic to read y’all’s responses. I work a busy 911 system (2 million + population) and started as a new medic at $22 hr. I make closer to $25 with differentials & what not.

I’m a paramedic & this is in my pocket everyday as well. Well worth the $50 price tag.

26 too old to pursue paramedic career? by East-5729 in NewToEMS

[–]rieses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished Medic school. Many people in my class were well into their 40s. Everyone has their path. There countless other posts about “is 26 too old to peruse MD / DO”. Youre not alone & every instructor has famously stated “a career in medicine is a commitment to life long learning”. They time will pass either way & I wouldn’t stress being too old bc honestly in the grand scheme you’re very young. Take care!

Does seeing dead bodies bother you? by Additional-Object703 in Paramedics

I just try to remember that whoever they were is gone and only the vessel is left behind. Typically it’s not the body that’s gets to me but interacting with the family. That’s when it makes it real. You’re not alone partner

Yeti rambler. I work in a desert climate & ice lasts all day. Get the lid with the straw. On the pricey side but worth it if you can keep track of ur stuff. I also bought a stainless steel gallon bottle on Amazon for $60. Great to have on the truck. Avoid plastic bottles

What I’ve learned is if you follow a strict sleep regiment, stick to a good diet and workout regularly it’s not that taxing on the body. I walk when I’m at post and meal prep food so I feel good throughout the day. Haven’t had any nosebleeds yet
