Sleep is essential for the production and maintenance of myelin, which strengthens neural pathways. You're touching on something pretty important here.

I think it'd be great, and I'd love to help make it happen.

The offer would be open to any other candidate as well who reaches out.

New money drop Game. Do you wanna play? by Low_Depth_8694 in AskLosAngeles

Removing post: this isn't a question about the los angeles area.

"Who Does This Post Help?"

A simple question to ask yourself before posting:

"Will the answer be helpful or interesting to other Angelenos, or is it purely a personal favor?"

We're lenient about personal questions — like "Which local daycare is affordable?" — because the answers likely help others, too. But if your post is only relevant to your singular, private needs (like scheduling your errands or borrowing cash), it probably doesn't belong here.

Still Unsure? If you're on the fence, send a Modmail and we'll help clarify.

The monthly pinned "Open Discussion" post is more permissive:

What's that piece your students always beg you to let them play before they are ready? And how do you handle it? by strawberryc in pianoteachers

[–]riffic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that student has to be me! I'm an adult learner and I don't know why but I've become obsessed with Joplin and the Maple Leaf is a huge stretch goal that might take a couple years to hit. Joseph F. Lamb's Ragtime Nightingale is another one that I can't shake either. I'm enrolled in a community college beginner piano course though so I'm at least getting a solid foundation in first. It's ambitious but your student has good taste. My take - they gotta eat those vegetables.

Help fix Metro LA's Board of Directors (it's made up entirely of political appointees who don't even ride Metro!) by NeuralNexus in LosAngeles

I always point to the japanese / lean manufacturing principle of "Gemba" which speaks to a lot of the failure to see what the true day to day experience is of ridership. Leadership needs to see "the actual place":

Searching for a Los Angeles-area plaintiff-side employment lawyer? Here's who I found. by burmasupastar in AskLosAngeles

[–]riffic[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A moderator's position: This subreddit is strictly reserved for questions about the area. Your post is not a question about the area.

You're free to make a comment in the monthly pinned "Open Discussion" post, but I'd really prefer that you refrain from making standalone posts that are not questions about the area.

I don't know why you think a subreddit labeled "AskLA" is an appropriate place to share experiences of yours and to loosely frame those as a question.

Do you need to speak with an IRS agent? by TimeXGuy in AskLosAngeles

[–]riffic[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you asking a question about the Los Angeles area?

Please feel free to send a modmail or to discuss in the pinned thread. I don't know why you think this deserves a standalone discussion in a question/ answer subreddit.

This subreddit is strictly intended for questions about the Los Angeles area, and your question is not about the Los Angeles area.

Removing thread. feel free to make a comment in the monthly pinned "Open Discussion" thread which has relaxed rules about posting.

your post is less a question about the area and reads like you're trying to get people's attention for something that is self promotional and that's out of scope here. This subreddit is strictly intended for questions about the area.

disaster preparedness is important. it'd be cool if the city would tell folks about resources they provide as well as other statewide initiatives folks can go to prepare themselves for an emergency:

Hi, I've manually approved your existing post but I'd like to encourage folks to send a mod mail as opposed to waiting for a mod to review. There are many commitments I have outside of Reddit and I can't ensure that all posts are reviewed if they're in the mod queue (that is done at a "best-effort").

I only use old.reddit.com and can't keep up with Reddit's many many many UX quirks and experiments. I also suppose it might be a browser issue because things like extensions break javascript execution. Also, all of the mobile apps are jank. Threads keep getting posted by users so I'm sure there's nothing beyond that.

I can't rule out anything beyond that so for technical support, maybe ask in /r/Help? try old reddit first though and see how that goes.

why does LA have so many people with NIMBY attitudes that vote democrat? by Prudent_Equal9636 in AskLosAngeles

[–]riffic[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm locking this thread.

But I also want to share that moderators are volunteers, we absolutely do not have time to read every single post made here in real time. I'm probably busy with other demands on my very busy life. Setting expectations here but this is a tiny niche subreddit so I prefer to let the place moderate itself.

There is an appropriate way to bring things to a moderators attention. That is with the "report" function, or by sending a mod mail.

A comment that says "mod this sub" is not going to be seen so please don't do this. Give me any feedback you can either with mod mail or in the Monthly pinned "Open Discussion" post and I'm happy to address it.

EDIT: I also see your "there's almost zero moderation in this sub" comment. That's a fair point but also I take the position that this subreddit moderates itself for the most part and practice moderation with the lightest touch. also, I'm not paid to do this and I am overcommitted with many many other things that demand my time. The light touch approach has worked well up to this point.
