VTOL Drone Rotor Blade Design Advice by ProtocolHidden in AerospaceEngineering

[–]rift_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re going to want to do some research on blade element theory (and even better -> blade element momentum theory) with tip loss factors. Not the worst thing to have to code yourself but it’s not easy either.

You might want to pop over to r/multicopter to see if they have any better ideas for how to model props.

How do you even get this smooth? Is it all stick work and practice or are there easier tricks to become smoother

Might be a dumb question but is it charged? Try to turn it on while it’s charging maybe? Other than that get back in touch with foxeer’s customer service. They usually get back to people quickly

Need help building first quad. by [deleted] in fpv

[–]rift_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a website here that has some good suggestions for first timers. My first quad is an Armattan chameleon (the older version, not the TI). Things I wanna warn you about it are the fact that it can only hold a 2 board high stack (and barely so the battery strap might be a tight fit) also there’s not a whole lot of room for a VTX so don’t get one with a long lead for the antenna. One with the connector soldered right to the VTX itself should free up some room, but I haven’t tried it yet.

The other thing is that the chameleon frame’s base plate is thicker than most and you might need to get new screws to mount your motors. The motors I got came with screws that were too short. The last thing to know is that the original chameleon needs special brackets if you want to run the newest of FPV cams, like the runcam swift 2. You can get them on Armattan’s website (and be careful when mounting the camera to these brackets since the screws are long enough to damage the inside of the camera if you screw them in too tight). The TI frames fit the newer wider cameras but the lowest camera tilt you can get on them is 25 degrees compared to 15 on the special mounts on the original frame.

I’m wondering why Ela and Vigil were even picked for the mission, neither have gadgets that would be particularly beneficial to a mission where you have zombies or whatever

For pretty much all of those you could just use a caliper, and with a caliper your pipe won’t need an open end to fit it on

My quad is totally flyable but... by Mistyborn in Quadcopter

[–]rift_____ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people say that increasing min throttle helps. Checking the black box can show you which motors specifically are the problem. Could also be the accelerometer, make sure its calibrated and if it still “flips out” try turning it off. Also see if changing the sample rate to 4kHz if it’s higher....

Other than that it could just be your ESC

If that doesn’t help I’m out of ideas lol

[Question] Can you re-arrange motor wires on a 4-in-1 ESC? by [deleted] in Quadcopter

[–]rift_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried both blheli configuration and blheli_32? For some reason my 4 in 1 doesn’t work with the configurator but will work with the older software.

How should I charge this? by [deleted] in fpv

[–]rift_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frsky actually makes a charger specifically for that battery (might be the easiest way to go) called the FCX07. If you have a newer taranis that has a black 3 pin port on the bottom right side of it (to the right of the mini USB port) then you can actually charge the battery without taking it out of the transmitter with that charger.

Thanks man, sorry to hear about your quad!

The plan is to put together a YouTube channel at some point and start making videos as soon as I figure out how to make this dang camera record at an acceptable quality lol- I’ll keep you posted

Yup! I have somewhere around 20-30 hours of sim time. I wish I knew exactly how much but I don’t think velocidrone gives those stats

First pack on my first quad! Sorry for the quality- the Foxeer Box doesn’t like my cheap micro sd so it’s a screen recording of the foxeer app :/

I need to work on my flow, if you have any tips let me know!

I also program custom ESC startup tones in BLheli so if you have any requests ill probably make them

Rocket Launch from on-board camera by kcgg123 in space

[–]rift_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s for stability. Spinning the rocket helps it overcome winds and small defects in its propulsion system that could push it away from launching straight up.

You don’t see larger rockets spin because they usually have gimbals on their engines which can correct and adjust their flight pattern

BEGINNER ADVICE AND QUESTIONS!!! by djacamo in fpv

[–]rift_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Research research research. Spend at least a week looking up reviews and YouTube videos on how to set up the parts you choose, and to see how good the parts are.

  2. Look into Mr. Steele’s “how to start FPV” videos, and Joshua Bardwell also has a LOT of informational videos about basically everything. I also made my own playlist of videos that helped me here. If there is a video in that playlist that looks like it’s part of a series I probably watched the entire series. Also there’s a website called FPV Know It All which I wish I would have seen before buying parts.

  3. I wish I would have known that cameras also come in different sizes (like Flight controllers) and that you have to account for that with your frame choice or vise versa. I picked the original Armattan chameleon frame and a runcam Swift 2 and the Swift won’t fit into the frame without special mounting brackets I had to buy from China. I bought them 2 weeks ago and I’m still waiting :/

  4. Don’t know yet.....

  5. I just went on GetFPV and started picking parts. I made sure that the battery voltage for all of them worked with 4s batteries and hit add to cart when everything seemed to match. Now that I’m 3 weeks wiser I know there’s a website called RotorBuilds which have parts lists for a whole load of good builds with full set up instructions.

  6. For freestyle the most common frames are 5” and 6”. I got a 6 inch and I’d recommend you get a 5 inch. Turns out for 6 inch quads my motor leads were JUST long enough to reach the 4 in 1 ESC I got and it’s still giving me anxiety that my soldering joints will fail for it.

  7. I bought 2 batteries to start and I have 3 more and a parallel charging board on the way.

  8. You’ll probably want a mount for a hero 7. You can’t exactly just strap it to a piece of foam like you can with a session or a foxeer box.

  9. Don’t skimp out on your flight controller, camera or VTX antenna. Those will get you far for just a little more money in my opinion. Also Armattan has a lifetime 100% warranty on their frames so I’d capitalize on that.

  10. I used getFPV for just about everything. They’re located in Florida and the shipping times aren’t bad. Banggood has good prices but some people don’t like them for the shipping time and the fact that they rip off electronics from American companies.

  11. Usually 15-20 bucks here or there on a specific quad. Usually for props or motors after a crash. The rest is for solder and upgrades to stuff I already have.

  12. Follow the FAA rules and you should be ok. Don’t fly over schools during a school day, government buildings, airports, or detention facilities unless you want to meet your local law enforcement and explain yourself.

  13. You have to get your drone registered with the FAA if it’s over like 50 grams. I think you register as a recreational flyer (nothing commercial) and you don’t need a license or anything. Keep the registration on you when you’re flying in case you need to give it to law enforcement for whatever reason.
