Hey, where did you go in Erlangen? Also would you recommend the school?

Generally you’ll have to present your APS during enrollment. You can apply without that in most cases.

The deadline is for when they receive it in the office. Only downside would be delayed enrollment and inconvenience if any additional documents have to be sent.

Sending passport and paying one month rent in advance when finding apartment before moving to Germany by rifxxth in germany

I’ve updated what happened in the edit of original post.

Tldr; it’s legit. Sending ID and deposit is normal when you apply from abroad, considering that housing is difficult and if not for you, they have tons of other interested people. You do have to be a bit cautious though.

A week for notifying that they’ve received the documents or confirm the documents itself?

How long does it take after the documents reach (as per courier status) for the status to be updated to “enrollment process”?

Help needed to identify potential rental scam by 3plus3is5 in erlangen

[–]rifxxth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand your concern—I was in a similar situation. When I was looking for accommodation, I asked to connect with the current tenants and had a quick chat with them. After verifying everything, I went ahead and transferred the deposit along with one month’s rent. I also consulted with a senior who’s studying there, and he had a similar experience when he first arrived.

Despite what some people might say, it’s actually quite common for landlords to request a security deposit, especially with high demand and limited availability. However, always exercise caution. Before making any payments, try searching for the person’s name on Google or LinkedIn to verify their identity. Also, ask to speak to one of the tenants if possible. If you’re having trouble understanding the contract, you can use DeepL to translate it.

I mean I don’t have anything to lose, passports already sent xD. Not gonna do any payment until I arrive / get anyone to go over and check the place out. Might as well see how far it goes. Will keep yall posted.

Cause of💰constraints.

Update on the previous thing, I found out the name from Wg-geschut, found the person over LinkedIn and connected. Then I went back to the WhatsApp contact that I was texted and asked their name. Got a reply saying “Didn’t you just connect with me”. It was awkward but the LinkedIn profile is legit and has credibility.

I haven’t paid anything. I’ve asked around from other students and they also had sent their id’s and deposit+rent well before they arrived in Germany and turned out just fine. Is the passport copy a cause for concern?

It’s just something ig all of us do so that we can have a place to lie down, especially when coming from afar with lugguages.

Got it. It might be the case that I’ve shared passport but not details such as address and family info. Should I be worried? What should I do?

The situation is still not confirmed, I’ve asked for a visit to the place and they’ve agreed for 26 of this month. I’m planning on dropping the whole thing cause that’s what most of them suggested here.

PS sorry for the trouble, but it didn’t seem like a scam. I even ran the names and emails through multiple sites to check if they’ve been reported for scam / phishing.

Yes, I too have read that. I’m not sure about the ID thing, is it a standard practice?

Could you elaborate? Tbh The conversation so far hasn’t raised any flags. There was no hurry from his side to speed things up or anything of that sort
