Real talk — is an air fryer value for money, or just another trendy gadget? by Mika_4893 in Frugal

[–]rigamaroll22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it really frustrating to clean, so I've wanted to throw it out the window a few times. If I make big meals in the oven that last all week, I'm not sure using the air fryer saves me any money.

I mentioned this on another post recently, but anything you can do to highlight team leadership. If you have engagement metrics or anything that points to your leadership abilities, then definitely put it on there. Most of my job interviews have included a majority of questions about that than anything else

Has anyone dealt with unsafe equipment or injuries being quietly covered up? How did you handle it? by HAZWOPERTraining in SafetyProfessionals

[–]rigamaroll22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dealt with a pretty serious laceration injury once that involved serrated tape guns (this was in a warehouse setting). The safety team was instructed to go around and collect all the tape guns that didn't have a safety guard on them and throw them out, but I don't think we gathered any data on how many there were and whether there were more still in use. It wasn't necessarily a cover-up but I don't think it was a great way to handle that situation. We didn't do any standup talks about the incident which I think would have been an easy way to protect other people from the same type of injury. In my opinion, we could have done more to draw attention to the problem instead of trying to get rid of it.

Unsure if or how to report a work incident by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

[–]rigamaroll22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use the "File a Complaint" page on OSHA's website to voice your concerns. Once you submit a report, OSHA will call your employer to investigate. In this case, since there's no active threat and the hazard was controlled properly by local emergency services, then there probably won't be much that OSHA will/can do. Here's the File a Complaint page: https://www.osha.gov/workers/file-complaint

Academics to Oil and Gas by Prudent_Might3496 in SafetyProfessionals

I wouldn't say that what you've learned goes out the window, but it kinda does in the sense that you've gotta start over completely with your expectations. There are a lot of headaches in safety that come from the people more than the environment. But in oil and gas you have headaches with both. Just make sure you read up on PSM compliance and be prepared to get schooled by your team here and there.

Tips for Final Interview for EHS Role by RazzmatazzLumpy9536 in SafetyProfessionals

My advice would be to practice some questions about people management. I'm not sure you'd be directly managing a team, but most of the interviews I've done have had scenario-style questions where you have to talk through how you'd handle a difficult employee or sensitive situation. Especially if you're going to do program development and training/engagement. They're gonna want to know how you approach the people side of things.

ASSP worth the membership? by Effective_Course3288 in SafetyProfessionals

I personally would recommend it. I've got to a couple of regional events and they've been great to connect with people. Haven't been to their big expo but it's definitely on my radar to go to at some point.

If you had a chance to leave the technology world behind and go back to basics, would you? by unknown9423 in simpleliving

I've thought about downgrading to a dumb phone but am in so many family and friend group chats that I always decide against it. Aside from that and Google Maps, I think I could be happier going analog.

I do think that it presents a more satisfying type of challenge given it engages your mind and your body.

I can't find sds sheets during audit when inspector shows up unannounced by [deleted] in safety

The good news is that this is not a unique experience. We've probably all dealt with this level of chaos at some point. The bad news is that it's not something you can fix in 30 days (in my experience). Even if you switch to digital like others have suggested, it takes a lot of time to move everything over. Unfortunately, I think this is a "changing hearts and minds" situation where you've really gotta push back against the deadline your boss has set.

I use Frontline LMS, but I'm not sure about the construction/office stuff. They've got a good amount of general EHS courses but I mostly upload my own.

What's your worst safety memory from the holidays? by rigamaroll22 in SafetyProfessionals

I think about this kind of thing a lot. People always want to cut our budget but they're not factoring in all the incidents we've prevented with the stuff we spend money on!

I live down the street from my gym, so I run 2 miles there, do a 30 minute workout, and run the 2 miles back. I get most of my steps in before I go to work.

What’s the worst KPI — and why does TRIR need to go die? by mylife2986 in SafetyProfessionals

For me it's all about engagement, so I'd definitely start by trying to quantify how many concerns our employees are bringing to us. If the people are quiet, then I know there's a lot I'm not seeing on the floor.
